some of my favorite post-apocalypse tropes:
the broken parental figure who lost everything at the start of the apocalypse who meets the kid that changes their world. the parental figure is usually a grump who wants nothing to do with the kid, yet they can't help but to get involve and protect the kid at all costs. overtime the kid becomes their own and they both would do anything to keep their little family together.
the group of children reminiscent of peter pan's: lost boys. often orphaned or separated from their families. usually headed by the oldest of the bunch who takes on the role of everyone's parent. they tend to not trust adults because they've seen the true horrors of what the adults are capable of. there's a possibility they can be persuaded to join a survival group with adults involved but trust must be established first.
the cult that gives everyone else hell. they're the antagonists whose leader's villain origin story is intriguing, but they're too far gone past the point of saving. some of the cult members may be persuaded to be part of civilization again. ultimately, the head of this group must be stopped from poisoning what's left of humanity any further.
the definition of a soft cinnamon roll who loses too much, but remains constant with who they've always been. they don't believe in harming others and often believe everyone deserves a chance at salvation. it doesn't matter what life hits them with, they're firm in staying good and pure. often this may lead to their demise.
the definition of a soft cinnamon roll who loses too much and allows this to ultimately change them. their faith in humanity is lost. trust is difficult for them. where they may have once been the type to want to hear everyone's side, they have now become a shoot first and ask questions later. they're harder in personality and believes being kind is weakness.
