9x16 Coda (sort of)
Surprise! I I know I haven't been very active beyond likes, minor posts, and repost, but the writing beans actual sprung up on me for the first time in a log while. Honestly, its not my best work and I haven't written anything beyond chart notes in a long while, but I still want to share. So I hope you all enjoy! Based off a post/ask by @bucksbeagle on how Buck was helping Eddie.
“So what errands are keeping Buck busy today?” Hen asks from across the table, poking her fork at the questionable sausage Harry cooked.
Chimney swallows his mouth full of pancakes, “According to Maddie, he will be treating dispatch with trays of smoothies and her somewhat concerning dry cleaning.”
“Oh! Do you think he would pick up mine as well?” Ravi pipes up from the kitchen.
“Ya’ll need to stop using him as your personal errand boy. He’s going to get the wrong idea.” Eddie states, annoyance lacing his tone.
Hen turns to him, eyebrow quirked, “And what idea would that be?”
“That the love and support we gave him when he was in withdrawal was conditional on what he could do for us.” Eddie snarks back.
“And I’m sure you and Maddie and everyone else at this table, minus Sam, have repeatedly reminded him that is not the case. So don’t be hypocritical when we all know that boy has been at your house almost every evening making you and Christopher dinner.” She remarks defensively.
Eddie doesn’t respond, and instead stuffs yet another one of Buck’s cookies into his mouth, ignoring the breakfast platters laid before him. Eating anything that wasn’t cooked by Buck at the firehouse felt like a betrayal. (And he already had breakfast before coming in this morning, due to Buck having spent the night.)
“So can I ask him to pick up my dry cleaning?” Ravi pushes again.
“No.” Eddie states firmly, he looks over at the younger fire fighter, “He already has plans with Christopher.”
“You can’t hog him Diaz.” Chim says.
“If anyone is hogging him, it’s you and Maddie and all the baby sitting. Two kids by himself wears him out! Then by the time he gets home, he’s pretty much too tired to do anything else.” Eddie spits out more aggressively than warranted for the current converstion, earning a warning foot tap from Hen.
“Buck hasn’t been home though. I went by last evening and he wasn’t there.” Harry chimes in. Everyone, besides Sam who quietly makes his exit, turns to look at Eddie. He doesn’t meet any of their questioning gazes, clenches his jaw, and keeps his focus on his empty milk glass.
“Eddie when you say Buck is at home, you’re not talking about the one he rents.” Hen nudges.
He doesn’t give a response, but his tightening fist around his glass seems to be answer enough. Chim pushes next, “Maddie and I get home after dinner some days he babysits. Sometimes well past a certain teenager’s bedtime. And he insists on not staying the night, claiming he needed a proper bed, not a couch.”
“And there is no way you would risk causing harm to his body from sleeping on your couch.” Harry adds on.
Eddie won’t give them the satisfaction. He won’t add to their inquiries. He won’t panic. He won’t break. He won’t-
“Oh my god you and Buck are sleeping together!” Ravi exclaims.
“And only sleeping! Because he’s been too tired for even a hand job!” He will do exactly that.
The loft goes silent. Harry’s jaw is almost on the floor. Hen is smirking, as if she knew all along. Chimney looks like his head going to explode. And Ravi is just downright gleeful.
Eddie breaks the silence with a loud groan and drops his head to the table, hard. “Now I won’t even get to rub one out with him.” He mutters, knowing once Buck finds out he spilled the beans of their relationship, he was cutting Eddie off for god knows how long.
“So, food and dick are how he’s helping you huh?” Harry remarks.
“Oh my god probie, as your captain I am respectfully telling you to please shut it and never again make remarks about Buck or Eddie in that regard. At least in front of me.” Chim reprimands.
“And me.” Hen states.
“Same.” Ravi agrees.
“Won’t be getting any of it anyways.” Eddie says mournfully and listens to the entirety of the 118 collectively groan.
Sue him, he was down bad.
Not the longest or the best, I know, but a little secret relationship humor harms no one.
