Oooooh boy.  If you touch any one of the three you'd better be readyto die.

If it's Johan that gets hurt, Judai and Yubel both go on a totalrampage.  Since Johan is the weakest in terms of magic and physicalstrength, Judai and Yubel are both incredibly protective of himespecially since they have to deal with crazy magical things a lotwhat with Judai having to jump around dimensions fighting bad DuelSpirits and stuff.  So if Johan gets hurt, it's like...I hope you'reokay with dying because they will not rest until whoever hurtJohan has been horribly murdered.  Yubel is more loud about it, likehissing and snarling and screaming as she chases the thing, but Judaiis more of the eyes-glowing-with-total-rage-as-he-slowly-approachestype of person.

If Judai gets hurt, Yubel will act mostly the same, only now theyhave Johan to deal with too, who is very, very intense when itcomes to his friends and will very strategically pin the opponentcompletely down so that there is no escape.  He gives Yubel somethingof a strategy that she can use instead of just flying into a rage,making their combination very deadly.

And if it's Yubel that gets hurt, then you have the tag team of Judaiand Johan on your ass, with Judai's incredible strength and intensitycombined with Johan's strategic and methodical way of pinning themdown so that there's no escape.

Basically, don't mess with one of them if you're not prepared to messwith all of them.  They don't take kindly to the ones theycare for getting hurt, it's happened too many times already.

Ooooh great question!  Sorry it took me so long to get around to this one!!

You’re right, things are gonna change because they haven’t had the same issues they have in canon.

Johan is the easiest to figure out, like, he's gonna be mostly thesame because he wasn't too screwed up in canon.  Judai would probablyactually be happy-go-lucky and cheerful.  He would probablystill have issues with letting people get close to him, but itwouldn't be as bad as it is in canon.  He wouldn't really have tohide himself or pretend to smile anymore, he could just be happy forthe sake of being happy.  Yubel is probably the hardest to figure outbecause I honestly don't know what she'd be like without hercharacterizing trauma.  The only time we've ever seen her at all iswhen she was totally messed up and stuff.  All we have of her beforethat is that brief flashback, and I think that from that glimpse wecan see she is a very calm sort of person who takes on tasks with anair of duty.  She is also very devoted to her friends and those shecares for, which was horribly enhanced by her trauma and the Light ofDestruction.

So in a sort of modern day/high school AU, we have these three kidsjust kinda hanging out and having fun together.  Johan would be thescience-y one, I think, the one that's good at math and science andtechnical stuff and loves earth science especially (geology andstones yo).  Judai is the artistic one, because we know as a kid heliked making Duel Monsters, and in a world without the card game he'sgonna want to apply his burgeoning creativity to something.  He'dalways have like, paint on his face or something, and Johan tutorshim in the other subjects.  He's also really into athletics but isn'tcommitted enough to actually join a team.  Yubel is the mom friend. She's the one that's constantly nagging the both of them to do theirhomework and stop goofing off and goddammit stop being dumb andgetting yourselves into trouble.  She's the one that makes sure bothof them eat and sleep and don't fall too far behind.  She's astraight A student herself and probably involved in like QSA orsomething because you can't tell me she's not still reallygenderqueer in this universe, and Judai and Johan end up joining thegroup too and stuff.  The three of them are like inseperable, theytake all the same classes and they always sit together at lunch andmost students can't remember a time when they weren't all attached atthe hip.  They still balance each other out but there's not as muchneed for them to be balancing out someone's panic attacks or anythingbecause they don't have the problems from canon.  Judai probablystill gets depression and Yubel probably still has something, maybean anxiety disorder or something, and they all help each other workthrough their problems.  Imagine study groups :D  with Judaidistracting everyone with jokes he's read on the Internet and Johanbeing unable to stop himself from giggling and Yubel is trying not tosmile while she scolds him for distracting them from their work.

Imagine them all going to Pride rallies together and Judai paintsbeautiful rainbow signs and splatters Yubel with paint and then theyall get into a paint war. :D THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESSSSS

Their relationshipstarts incredibly awkwardly, because like, Yubel did kind of kidnap,possess, and possibly tortured Johan for a bit so yeah that's notsomething you just forgive and forget immediately.  It takes them awhile, and it starts off with Johan trying to reach out to Judai (whois trying to isolate himself after what happened), and Yubel kind ofhanging back at the back of Judai's mind and just watching, becausenow that she's fused with Judai and can feel what he feels for Johan,and can see just how kind Johan is, she really does feel incrediblyguilty to the point of severe depression about what she did to him. She knows that she blew their relationship out of proportion and sheknows that she was completely in the wrong, so she thinks that what'sbest is to hang back and not interact with Johan because she doesn'twant to cause him any more pain.

But Johan is aperfect precious cinnamon roll that canonically has no darkness inhis heart and I've always headcanoned that during his time with Yubelhe became curious about what in her past caused her to do this, andperhaps saw some of her early memories of Judai while she was tryingto possess him.  So he's very interested in trying to meet the realYubel, the Yubel not tainted with the Light of Destruction andmadness, and he really does want to reach out and try again. (ifyou're interested in how that starts out I actually wrote a shortthing once called Can We Begin Again? in which Johan meets up withJudai again directly after Judai returns, because dude after all ofthat the canon didn't even give us a reunion scene between Judai andJohan?? Bullshit).

Of course, Johan isstill a bit wary of her, but he's kind enough to understand thatJudai must have had a reason for making the choice that he did andbelieving that there's a chance that they can be friends this time.

Eventually, Yubel iskind of won over by his unfailing kindness but then gets confusedbecause she's starting to have the same feelings for Johan that shehas for Judai and no wait she's supposed to be devoted only to Judai—

And Judai isstarting to get to know Yubel more now that they're fused, andtogether they're trying to figure out the memories of their pastlives together that they had forgotten, and he's starting to realizethat yes, he really did love her in his past life and they're gettingcloser as they remember more about their past, but in the middle ofhis travels he meets up with Johan again and his old feelings forJohan are stirring and now Judai'sconfused too because he really cares about both of them and oh goshwhat does he do now—

Andit's Johan that one day is just like “you know I really like bothof you” and they get all flustered like “oh gosh what do we do”and Johan's like “you guys know polyamory is a thing right”

Sothey kind of slowly, tentatively start out this very oddrelationship, since two of the group are fused together and one ofthem is a dragon demon creature.  I feel like all three of them arevery gentle with each other and even hesitant, especially Yubelbecause she's already hurt so many people already and she doesn'twant to hurt these two that she loves anymore than she already has,she's so scared she's going to do something wrong again and what ifshe really doesn't understand love still, and Judai has hisdepression that makes him think he's not really worthy of either oftheir loves and he's also afraid of being toxic and stuff, and Johansometimes wonders if he can really be enough for the two of them.

Butmostly, they all work together.  I just feel like there's thisinteresting dynamic between them that's steady, like a heartbeat,something on the same level that they're all kind of hesitant andmoving slowly so as not to hurt the others, but they can find comfortin each other too.  All three of them together is like security, theybalance each other out and they can all come together on the same,soft, gentle level.

Well, first you have to understand that the dynamics of a polyamoric relationship are going to be different.  There's more than one person in the group, but in order for it to be healthy, all of them have to be in love and giving each other pretty equal amounts of attention.  That's the major thing you'll want to remember.  You have to be careful not to make it a Soulshipping fic with Johan on the side, or a Spiritshipping fic with Yubel on the side; all three of them have to be involved with each other, talking to each other, and interacting with each other fairly equally.  The reader has to get the sense that all of them are in an equal footed relationship and no one is favoring someone over the other.  This is something that I struggle with sometimes, too.  I suggest finding some blogs or other information that might have more information about actually being in a polyamoric relationship.

As for the characters themselves, the most important thing to remember about them is that none of them are totally mentally stable.  At the time in their lives that this OT3 would be taking place, Judai is going to be suffering from anxiety and possible panic attacks as well as bouts of depression stemming from his time as Supreme King.  Yubel is also going to have a few moments like this; as by this time she's probably starting to feel at least a little bit guilty about what she put Judai and his friends through.  She may go through moments where she thinks that she doesn't deserve to be with Judai after all she's done, and that may drive temporary wedges into the entire relationship.  Even Johan may have one or two panic instances, as he was possessed by Yubel for a fairly long time and that's going to affect him.  The important thing to note about Johan, however, is that he's so damn selfless and kind that he's not only going to hide these moments from Yubel and Judai, but if they ever find out he's going to do everything in his power to make sure neither of them feel responsible for it, which they are definitely going to since they are kinda partially responsible.  So in their interactions, especially at the beginning, there is going to be a lot of awkwardness, a lot of guilt, a lot of wondering if maybe I don't deserve this kind of love from these two.  Even in the later ends of the relationship, they're going to have to help each other through the bad spots; and it might be even worse if all of them are going through a bad spot all at once.

One other thing that you should keep in mind is that Judai and Yubel are fused together (unless you're doing an AU in which they are separate).  That's going to change the dynamics of this group's romantic/sexual activities.  I personally headcanon that Judai and Yubel can separate for brief periods of time, but you might choose to keep it more in the established canon and say they can't.  This is more of me just giving you a reminder of this, I don't have any specific details on how to work this because I am a sex-repulsed asexual who will probably not write about anything more than them holding hands or maybe kissing once or twice; if you want information on writing sex scenes you'll have to find another avenue ^^;
