it's a strange thing when you're traveling with a film for the first time, because you're in a sense inventing this public persona and performing a king of alternate version of yourself, some kind of media self, which then goes on to have its own weird life without you. Between that and a few other things, I was finding myself waking up in the mornings and feeling like I was sitting up into someone else's life and having to scramble to construct a character who could operate in that context. So I wanted to make a film initially about someone who may or may not be an imposter in their own life as a way to talk about how we create characters and narratives in order to operate as human beings.

This one grabbed my attention straight away, “synthwave” reviewed in mainstream metal publications. There’s got to be something to it for it to even make it anywhere near them so I thought “ah fuck it what’s the worst that could happen”, that remains to be seen at this point. GosT is a 38 year old entity which had been active for the past 5 years, picking up some popularity recently hence how this record found its way into my cross-hairs.

Intro track is like rob zombie inspired American horror story track, the old recorded speeches and blood curdling female horror screams set the tone for things to come. Techno dance synth elements with heavy beat and eerie composition, barely any vocals those that are there are mostly sampled. Best tracks “Garuth” particularly heavy with screams, “Commandment” which is sinister as hell, and “Beliar” is just an all round beast.

I’ve given up trying to understand where this kind of music emerges from I’ve just accepted it does appear and that it will always be received with what is renowned as a marmite reaction. However what people forget even though marmite is love hate some people are impartial to it. I’ve really enjoyed experiencing what’s going on here but I don’t necessarily want to add it to my regular playlists I’ll need to be in the mood.
