New America Media is a nationwide association of over 3000 ethnic media organizations representing the development of a more inclusive journalism. Founded in 1996 by Pacific News Service, New America Media promotes ethnic media by strengthening the editorial and economic viability of this increasingly influential segment of America's communications industry.
The article was very insightful because it provided me with the interesting saying of the âBamboo Ceilingâ which is like the âGlass Ceilingâ for women. The article begins by talking about how the popular show How I Met Your Mother did an episode where the main characters had âyellowfaceâ and were in an âorientalâ setting. Now then although there have been several Asians that have shown that they are proud and strong such as those that have won shows such as Survivor, Amazing Race, and Big Brother. The âBamboo Ceilingâ is definitely present and visible and this article really brings that to light.
"Feeling the sting at 32âł
An article written last year for Independent, a British journalism platform, notes the rather reserved stance that Anne Hathaway had taken about already being passed over for roles at 32, roles that are going to, you guessed it, younger women. "I can't complain about it because I benefited from it. When I was in my early twenties, parts would be written for women in their fifties and I would get them," she told Glamour. "Now I'm in my early thirties and I'm like, 'Why did that 24-year-old get that part? I was that 24-year-old once. I can't be upset about it, it's the way things are."
The passivity of Hathaway is quite remarkable. It is perhaps her stance on the subject that helps the system continue. Read the whole post here.Â
The âHalf Your Age Plus 7ⲠGolden Rule
In âLeading Men Age, But Their Love Interests Donâtâ (vulture.com) the ages of leading actors and actresses on the release date of popular Hollywood movies depict an unmistakable trend: as male actors gain years on the silver screen, (as shown in a smooth upward line) their love interestsâ ages appear to stabilize mainly around the early-twenties to mid-thirties. Looks like the âhalf your age plus 7Ⲡrule doesnât always apply in on-screen romances, especially if youâre male. (Weâll have to dig further into the creation of that rule, and why we think that that specific age difference is the last frontier before it gets âcreepyâ, but thatâs a whole other can of worms).

This link provides an explanation of the frequency of drug use and drug related deaths at EDM festivals. This article takes a unique approach to address drug use because it recognizes that it will not completely disappear from EDM events, in turn, people must be educated on recreational drug use and learn how to take care of their body properly if they decide to take drugs. Â The implication behind this is to prevent drug related deaths and injuries by teaching people what supplemental measures they must take with their bodies when they are in an altered state.

Virgin Teritories, A reality TV show on MTV, focuses on 15 young adults personal journeys with their virginities. The show follows the decisions on whether the participants want to keep or lose their virginities and the struggles associated with their virginities that play out in relationships and with family and friends.
The first episode begins with four young adults, Lisa a virgin bride staying abstinent until her wedding night, Kyle whom ashamed of his virgin status hides it from his friends, Mikaela who is dying to lose her virginity and Dominique who is too âpickyâ in partners to have sex with anyone yet. Throughout the season, new participants are introduced all with very different definitions of virginities and reasons that they are still virgins. The participants struggle with traditional authority, religion, and issues such as temptations in college, difficult relationships and one girl even setting an ultimatum for her virginity. One teen in particular struggles with his sexuality and coming out to his parents while another girl fears pregnancy, and for the season finale a girl finally turns to therapy due to her uncontrollable fear of sex.
Either way, they're both overwhelmingly white
This article looks at the racial breakdown of designers. Most research done on runways focuses on models, because those are the faces we see. This means that when we are discussing cultural appropriation in fashion, we only see part of the story. This article is revealing because it shows that while designers are more diverse, at the time of this article, white designers still made up 65%. While that number is not shocking, it puts into perspective why there is so little conversation about representation in fashion, since it is very hard to stand up to a majority in an industry as cutthroat as fashion.
