I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve surpassed my girlfriend’s viewing and am waiting on her to catch up so I could watch the next episode. Heavy things are going down and I need someone to talk about it with! So while I wait, I’ll chime in with my favorite character update.

I loved Barry Bostwick’s character, Jay. I’m a sucker for good ol’ fashioned close-up magic, so he and his silver age magician friends were fun to watch. Like a great magic trick, the episode had me looking in all the wrong directions and surprised me at the end, but Barry Bostwick’s performance was a rock solid anchor in the story and keeping this constantly shifting story grounded.  He brought so much depth to Jay and I really felt for him at the end. Similarly, I couldn’t help sympathize with Dracula (is he really called that? oh. yeah. he’s really called that.) from “Monster Movie”. The episode was also a f*ing delight (no better word to describe it) to watch. Everything was done right. As hilarious as “Ghostfacers” was, I had notes in it’s execution. But the only thing I would have changed about “Monster Movie” would be naming their aliases after Lon Chenay, Boris Karloff, or some classic horror reference. Cuz they found a way to work in so many classic monster elements in such clever ways! But I digress. The ending monologue was surprising touching for such a cheesy episode, and it made this campy premise something genuine and heartfelt. Totally didn’t expect that coming. Well done writing staff. The overall arch of the show is hella interesting. Dean is trying to rise up, Sam is starting to really fall. In his doubt, Castiel is becoming more legitimate as a character. And the biblical saga is trying to take off and make for some great conflict. As much as they keep adding layers to the boys and keep me going back and forth as to who I enjoy watching more, I can’t help get pulled into all the characters around them. Everybody, everything on this show is getting better and better.
