Constantly thinking about that scene in Mistletoe and Murder (pretty sure it was MAM,I haven’t read it in a while so…)where Bertie said to Daisy “I’m cursed Squashy” and how in ASFOS he says to Nuala after Colonel MacNair dies “I’m cursed”.

I'm going to blame tumblr brain worms for the Jeeves/ Bertie Wooster sex dream that I just woke up from.
Bertie provoked Jeeves into acting on the UST by having some kind of breakdown/ fit of madness and making awful decorating choices in their shared apartment. Splashing lime green paint around. Very funny upon reflection

December 21st 1936, Times Magazine reported the following in reaction to the Windsors appearance on screen in Manhattan’s No.1 newsreel theatre:
Prince Edward (cheers); Mrs Simpson (cheers); 1st husband Cmd. Spencer USN (boos); 2nd husband, Mr Simpson (cheers & boos); The Arch Bishop of Canterbury (BOOS); new Crown Princess Elizabeth (boos); New King George and Queen Elizabeth (boos!)
Support for David and Wallis was considerably strong across the Atlantic, in Canada too there were similar opinions. Albert’s unpopularity in his ascension was not due to anything he had done but for the strong international support for the other royal couple.
An organisation called ‘Friends of the Duke of Windsor in the United States’ emerged shortly after the announcement of Albert’s visit was made. Among other unpleasant articles about Albert being the ‘colorless weak personality’ of the brothers published by international papers, were threats of assassination and ransom demands to restore Edward to the throne.
No wonder Bertie was nervous of going over to the USA.
Then David made his next cowardly move and broadcast a message to the Americas as Bertie was sailing to that tour. He called for peace and the avoidance of another war. The UK saw it as a public relations disaster and those in the Royal Family still loyal to David lost all respect for him in his attempt to ENCOURAGE the ill feelings towards his brother when said brother was in a position unable to retaliate.
Albert’s operation in 1949 was much more severe that I originally thought. What I was first lead to believe was that it was to remove a significant clot in his right leg, turns out to be that his condition was so serious the doctors did at one point consider amputating his right leg.
Albert began complaining of severe cramps in his legs at the end of ‘48 and due to his love of the outdoors and traversing the wilderness in shooting season this became frightfully common for him. The symptom has the name of intermittent claudication and you guessed it, is a side effect of smoking. It was painful enough for him to have to postpone his tour of Australia (which he was very, very reluctant to do) in order to help treat the condition. Painkillers and the like were a given but he was advised to rest much more and to avoid using his legs so much, which was obviously an issue with him. Some small exercises were introduced and he was unable to carry out public duties at this time for the sake of focusing on easing the severe cramps and reduce the risk of worse clotting.
On the 1st of March, Albert was told by his doctor that they would need to operate in order for him to lead a normal life. It did come as a shock to Albert because he had been told that he was spending all that time out of the public eye in order to recover, only to be told months down the line that his condition was deteriorating, not improving. However, his condition was so bad that he was considered too weak to attempt to preform the surgery and Albert spent the next eleven days doing the complete opposite of what he had originally been told to do. After months of avoiding exercise the pain in attempting vigorous work outs caused severe pain and his weaker condition meant he became exhausted incredibly quickly.
On March 12th he was considered just well enough to preform a lumbar sympathectomy, which is the severing of nerves at the spine in order to stop his arteries from closing in his legs. It would relieve the pressure and the pain and indeed save his leg, but the condition would be that in the summer months the leg would not be able to cool itself down and would overheat and cause pain if he was unable to cool it, given his very public role it was a worry that it would become noticeable. His promised tour of Australia & New Zealand and later Southern Africa blew out of the window the moment he agreed to the surgery.
