Diedrik had taken the kids to the pool to swim and by extension, Ofelia. While he played with them, she stood clad in her old timey swimsuit and stared blankly at the water. She never learned how to swim. It never seemed a necessary skill and she never had the time for it. The girl shuffled close to where Diedrik was and called out to him stiffly. “Excuse me. Sir. If you are able. Could you show me how to swim? I should know because um. I should be able to protect the children. From water.” She’d never allow them near a body of water deeper than a tub if they were all alone together, but figured that excuse would work better than ‘Hey, I’m embarassed because I can’t swim so show me how, man who is not my dad or any sort of kindly relative.’
