Poogan's Porch. 72 Queen Street, Charleston, SC. Pooganโs Porch was originally a spacious home, erected in 1891. By 1976, the last residents left and the house was converted into a restaurant. A little dog, Poogan, who had been a neighborhood fixture for years, stayed behind. As far as he was concerned, the porch at 72 Queen Street was his. He graciously accepting table scraps and back scratches from every family on the block. He was no purebred fluffy puppy; he was aย good olโ, down-home Southern porch dog. Poogan greeted the first guests warmly. The restaurant family cherished him. He became an institution. Poogan died a natural death in 1979. This building is his monument. The site of his grave is near the front entrance steps of the property. We still miss him.
