The Battlefield One Debacle
If you are a Battlefield fan, then you were probably excited for the launch of the Battlefield One open beta as many were. Battlefield 4, if you can remember a couple of years back, had a horrible start with fans and has earned the nickname of Betafield ever since. The actual beta of Battlefield One seemed to a smooth one until early Wednesday. A hacking group by the name of PoodleCorp hacked EA and shut down the servers.
I was part of the unlucky group of individuals that were very excited for the launch, only to be forced to wait over 10 hours to play as servers were shut down for the majority of the day. I first met this issue when I tried playing the beta on my computer. I downloaded the beta normally on Origin and when I booted the game up, the connection was lost. I gained connection to the server a few times, to only be rejected out of every server I tried to join.
At first I thought to myself that this was just due to servers being over populated. I downloaded the beta on my Xbox One and found out the results were pretty much the same. Both platforms were completely shut down and I can only assume that the PS4 was having the same issue.
After becoming very annoyed, I decided to further investigate the reasoning behind this. I searched far and low for every possible reason throughout various sources. I pulled up my browser and looked it up on Google and found out that PoodlCorp was back at it again.
PoodlCorp is a hacking group that came about a couple of months back and got noticed for hacking big YouTube channels such as WatchMojo.com, boogie2988, and LeafyIsHere. Now the group has focused their sights on the gaming industry. The first attack happened about month ago when they shut down Blizzard servers. They now have hacked EA servers and shut down a second gaming company within a span of a few weeks.
This brings the point that a lot of people have no lives and enjoy breaking the law to piss off a large group of people. Hopefully, the people behind these attacks will get caught and will be punished for their crimes because hacking a huge cooperation and shutting their servers down is a crime.
