Jane took her hand and got up, wincing at the dull throb in her skull. "I've had worse. Where did this thing come from anyway?"

The woman blushed a bit, looking off to the side nervously as she stated "Well... most recently, France in 1492. I had to help the king, he had a bit of a problem with flesh eaters from Saturn Nine."

Jane blinked. "So you're saying that you traveled into the past to save the king of France from aliens. With a telephone box."

The woman smiled, missing Jane's sarcasm completely. "That's exactly right! Except it's technically a police box."

"Really? Because I'm with the police and I would have remembered those."

"You're on the police? You'll see me and my TARDIS again. In the meantime, don't get eaten by a snowman."

"How did you know about that? It's not open to the public! Who are you anyway?"

The woman smiled again. "Most people just call me the Doctor. And what's your name? I like to know who I hit with my spaceship."

"Jane. Jane Rizzoli." Jane turned to the TARDIS. "And how is it a spaceship and a time machine?"

But the Doctor was out of sight. Jane shook her head and began to walk home. She knew she should track the woman down, but something about this one made her feel like she was better off without pursuing the lead. She tried to push down the butterflies in her stomach as snow swirled around her.

The next day, Jane reported to work as usual- slightly late and more than a little grumpy. But she smiled when she saw Korsak approaching her.

"Jane! We've got a new Chief Medical Examiner! And you might even like this one, she seems like your type," he added, smirking.

"Shut up. Any leads on the snowmen cases?"

"Yeah, one second. Jane, may I introduce to you-"

From around the corner, a familiar female voice interjected. "I believe we've already met. Detective Rizzoli, how's your head?"

Jane' jaw hit the floor. There she was, with her hair and her eyes and her lab coat just the same, though the flashlight was nowhere to be seen. Recovering quickly, Jane said coolly, "You were right, it's bruised. Are you our new Chief Examiner, Doctor?"

"Please, my name is Maura Isles. And yes. I believe we'll be working closely together on your current case- the snowmen, I believe?"

Jane nodded, still in disbelief. The gorgeous maniac was her case partner.
