childhood friends with thanatos.
in a life no one remembers anymore, you became close with two sisters who lived in your village. there weren't very many other children to play and go to school with, so you knew them practically from birth. you spent your youth happy and carefree among the wheat fields, and over time, you developed a particular fondness for the eldest sister--polyxia.
polyxia was such a cheerful and expressive soul, sharing her storybooks with you and happily talking about anything from fables to dreams for the future. her giggly laughter rang out in the air, and you had fun together until the sun started setting. in the evenings, you would lie on the grass and watch the stars slowly come out as purplish twilight flooded the sky. how could you not be so completely enamoured with her and her beautiful smile? and she felt the same way, going over to your house at the slightest impulse to share extra bread they had baked or simply just to see you. she almost hung out with you more than with castorice, who just smiled and watched her sister's friendship from afar.
when the sisters grew older and expressed a desire to travel and get their education, you naturally wanted to come with. you couldn't imagine your days without polyxia, and there was the fact that her health had started to weaken... though she had castorice, you worried for her too and wanted to help look after her. whatever guilt polyxia may have felt then and in the future, she would never think of declining your company. the holy city was your destination.
you were there for when the healer delivered the prognosis for her illness. she had no more tears to cry at that point, and she only let you squeeze her hand and sit with her quietly. after that, you stayed by her side, helping her tend to her flowers and other chores so that she didn't overexert herself. she often fretted about wasting your time, but any moment spent with her would never be wasted. mostly, she managed to put on a brave face and joke around with you to keep you from worrying. on days she was unable to leave home, you read books with her and talked of the things you learned on your travels.
every so often, polyxia found freshly cut flowers lying on the sill of her bedroom window, sometimes with other curiosities like shiny stones or notes with poems written on them. while she may have felt lonely and weak at home, knowing that you were thinking of her always made her heart warm.
as the chrysos heirs' journey towards godhood came to an inevitable close, you watched the kind girl you loved so much become hopeless and moody. she withdrew into herself, often preferring to sit with her thoughts and contemplate her fate silently. it was hard to watch, and there were some moments when she considered sending you away to spare you from any further heartache. but she loved you too much, and she selfishly (in her mind) wanted to keep you with her for as long as possible before she had to depart.
aside from having to sacrifice her sister, the most painful part of her journey was having to leave you. even in her darkest moments, you made flowers bloom in her heart, and she would never forget that even as she was called to the land of the dead. in the next world, she would drift along her blossoming fields and see you in every petal. your kind heart, your voice as you read aloud to her, and the way you followed her so loyally from home to godhood.
she only hoped that wherever your soul ended up, you would have a happy life without her. it was a lost cause to wish you would remember her, but someone like you deserved peace in every lifetime, and she would keep you alive in her memories for all those long and lonely years.
