Fixing a TARDIS is, due to the complex build of the machine, difficult.
It always was, and it always will be, and the Doctor had known that but he was really feeling the level of difficulty now. He'd successfully grown the chunk of coral his full-Timelord counterpart had left him with and had taken it on a few adventures here and there, but the problem with growing a TARDIS from another, already broken TARDIS, was that his wasn't in top condition either. And being a complex, organic thing, you couldn't just fix it with regular spare parts.
As an agent for UNIT, he wasn't technically supposed to go around buying extraterrestrial materials from a con man, but the Doctor was never a fan of following rules. And after finding out that Jack Harkness existed in this universe he'd been itching for an excuse to go see the man. This, as far as he was concerned, was the perfect excuse.
And so he was here; stepping out of his TARDIS and approaching his old friend, hands shoved in his pockets as he strode over. "Jack Harkness," he called out, "I think you've got something I need, sir."

jack rolled his eyes and replied, “yeah, yeah, i know the whole schpiel! ‘take us to the doctor or you’ll be exterminated!’ well, i hate to break it to you, but the doctor won’t be coming!” thay jammed its eyestalk into jack’s back, urging him to keep walking, and he swallowed back a wave of fear as they approached a console.
a twinge in his gut caused jack a wave of nausea and he bent over one of the computers, one hand clasped to his mouth while the other wrapped protectively around his stomach. “just--- give me a moment.”
thay hesitated before it responded. “YOU ARE UN-WELL... RE-COV-ER OR YOU WILL BE EX-TER-MI-NATED!”
