“ I noticed, ” she responds curtly. On her list of things that she wanted to deal with today, listening to Mary bitching about the weather wasn’t one of them. “ Maybe you should use some of that heist money to pay your bills, instead of pissing it away on whatever it is you spend ‘ your money ’ on. ”
“I pay my bills,” Mary snaps irritably.
She lays on the floor of her balcony; one leg is slipped under the railing, dangling off the edge. The cool breeze hits her face, but she doesn’t stop scowling. “I don’t live here all the time.” Or ever, really. It’s a cheap bolthole, and one of her lesser used ones at that.
“You think we have time to run around fixing the air-conditioning?” She’d forgotten all about it being broken until she arrived three days before. “What do you want, anyway? Showing up here—” She pushes her sunglasses up her nose, finally sits up.
“Spit it out.”
