Boba Tea Mishap + a Little Extra
“Alright, Lai, wait up!”
The angel in question was tapping his foot and waiting impatiently at the two that were lagging behind. The three were out on a mall trip and after maxing Kai's credit card, they figured it was time for the food court.
Calypso chuckled and she pulled Kai over to the impatient little guy, “seems like someone's hungry.”
Lai shook his head and pointed to a Boba Tea Shop, his eyes sparkling in pure curiosity.
“Oh, you wanna try Boba?” Kai raised an eyebrow quizzically. At Lai's adamant nodding, she chuckled quietly, “wow, hadn't expected that from you, sprout. But anything for my babes.”
“And that's why you're broke now, bish,” Calypso rolled her eyes, and followed along as they headed towards the back of the line.
“Hey, I'm not broke, I still have cash on me, don't be a sourpuss, Caly,” Kai stuck their tongue out at her, yelping in surprise when Calypso bit it gently with her sharp teeth. “The fuck was that for?”
Calypso only laughed once she'd released her grip, “oh you're sooo fun to tease. When we get home, I'll do more than just bite~”
Kai instantly felt a certain heat spreading to a place that it shouldn't right now, “Caly!”
The purple-haired demon laughed again, knowing she'd gotten the response that she wanted out of them. Lai, ever the innocent one, had no idea what was going on, just excited about the Boba Tea.
When it was their turn to order, Lai pointed out the milk tea with the tapioca pearls, Kai ordered a strawberry lemonade with mango popping pearls, and Calypso decided to try the matcha milk green tea with aloe jelly. Kai paid with cash and the three of them walked over to the side to wait for their order. Lai watched in awe as the worker made their drinks.
“You're really intrigued by this, aren't you, sprout?” Kai gently ruffled his curly hair.
Lai leaned into the touch, smiling at them and nodding.
Kai giggled quietly, leaning down, kissing his forehead softly, “you're so cute and endearing, you know that?”
Lai blushed and flew up to plant a kiss on Kai's cheek. Calypso rolled her eyes, but smiled softly when Lai turned to kiss her cheek too.
“Yeah, the cutest little angel ever,” Calypso muttered.
It didn't take long for their drinks to be finished, so they took their cups and Boba straws and found a table. The three of them sat down and Kai showed them how to poke their straws in the top. They held up their cup, Calypso and Lai following suit.
“To us,” Kai toasted.
“To us, indeed,” Calypso agreed and Lai nodded.
The three then took a sip through their straws, though Lai took a more generous, excited sip. Because of this, when he experienced the tapioca pearls flying straight toward his throat, he quickly started choking.
Kai's eyes widened and they hurried over, patting him on the upper back, careful not to strike his wings, “holy shit, Lai, be careful.”
The poor angel only coughed in response. One more cough dislodged the stuck tapioca pearls out onto the table. He panted, slightly panicked over the whole situation.
“You good, small fry?” Calypso quirked an eyebrow, slightly amused by the failed task.
Lai glared as he coughed once more, this one leading to a small *hup!* and he quickly covered his mouth.
“Caly, stop it, this isn't funny,” Kai reprimanded her, before moving in front of him, looking concerned, “Lai? You ok?”
Lai only looked at Kai with nervous eyes before another *hlp!* shook his small frame. The angel covered himself with his wings in a cocoon-like shelter.
At this, Calypso finally broke into a giggling fit, “what? Who knew angels had to deal with hiccups?”
“Caly,” Kai glared at the demon, who only shrugged and kept on giggling at her partner's misfortune.
Lai's shoulders shook as another *hip!* burst out of him. He was so embarrassed. Usually, angels didn't get hiccups. They were a form of punishment and used as torture. Maybe the head angels had found him and were toying with him before they inevitably brought him back to Nevaeh for his real sentence.
Kai kneeled down to Lai's height, trying to seem less intimidating. It was days like this they'd curse their tall genes. They very gently stroked Lai's hair in a soothing way, knowing it was his favorite comforting gesture. “Sprout, you ok?”
“Th-they're com-*hmpk!*-ming for me,” Lai struggled to whisper to Kai, his form quivering and his eyes constantly looking up terrified.
Kai looked confused, “who's coming, baby?”
Another quiet mumble, “the an-*hngk!*-angels.”
Calypso finally stopped laughing once she realized how frightened her angel was. She walked over, seeing how much he was trembling. “Fuck…is he ok?”
Kai glanced up at her, “he thinks the angels are coming for him.”
“Ohhh, maybe we should get out of here,” Calypso suggested.
Lai agreed with a nod that was interrupted by his head jerking back with a strong *hip-uh!* He winced and hid himself more. Kai gently picked him up and Lai moved his left wing so he could listen to Kai's heartbeat, successfully calming himself down.
“Everything's going to be alright,” Kai reassured him as they continued to stroke his hair. “It's only us, the angels aren't here.”
Lai whimpered and clung to Kai's shirt, feeling secured. Calypso grabbed their bags and drinks and led the way out to the car. The angel kept glancing at the sky as he was being carried, watching for any signs of the superior angels. Kai kept giving him quiet reassurances as they arrived at the car, having parked pretty close to the entrance.
“Caly, can you drive? I'm gonna stay back with Lai,” she tossed the keys to Calypso, who caught them with her horn.
“On it, boss,” she nodded, not arguing for once.
Kai set Lai down to stand, the poor angel wobbling, clinging close to Kai, still *hip!* hiccuping away quietly. She opened the back door and guided Lai inside, getting in quickly after him, closing the door.
“Everyone ready?” Calypso turned to them as she started the car.
“Yeah,” Kai nodded as they continued comforting Lai.
Calypso drove off to their apartment. The ride started out silent, only the occasional *hup!* from Lai. Surprisingly, it was quietly broken by said angel.
“M'so-*hip!*-rry…” Lai whispered.
“For what, sprout?” Kai peppered little kisses on his forehead.
“Ruining our *hup'm!* date,” he pouted and avoided Kai's eyes.
“Oh, boo, you didn't ruin anything-”
“But *huck!* I did…I can feel the presence *hup!* of angels, and…there were *hlp!* none nearby and I got scared for n–nothing and…*ic*” he trailed off.
Kai held him close as Calypso spoke up, “it's ok to be afraid. Those angels fucked you up. It's called trauma for a reason, small fry. But we're gonna be here for you, you got that?”
Lai couldn't help the quiet giggle at the aggressive reassurance, “got it, *hup!up!* Calypso.” He pressed a hand to his chest at the double, surprised.
“You still doing okay? We'll see about getting you some water when we get home,” Kai told him.
“For what?”
“For your hiccups, silly,” Kai smiled, “you wanna get rid of them, don't you?”
Lai hiccupped again, feeling his chest and head jolt from the spasm. Now that he knew that this wasn't a curse from Nevaeh, he actually didn't mind them.
“By the look you're giving, I'd say you're intrigued again,” Kai smiled, slightly amused. “They don't hurt, do they?”
Lai shook his head, “no, but *hup!* I don't mind them actu-*hip!*-actually.”
Calypso snorted quietly, “adorable. Our angel is intrigued by the very thing he was so terrified of before.”
“Hey, *hup-ah!* these used to be used for tor-*hilp!*-torture against rebellious angels…f'course that'd be my first *hip!* reaction,” Lai pouts.
“I'm just messing with you, love,” Calypso relented and turned the car down to their street.
“You really need to learn when to play around and when to be serious,” Kai sighed exasperated.
“As you've constantly tried to teach me, but you forget that I'm a demon. It's in my nature.” She parked in the parking lot.
“She's *hip!* right, she can't help it *HUP!*,” Lai shrugged, giggling quietly when his body shook so hard, his wings uncontrollably flinched at the strong spasm.
Unfortunately, a wing flicked Kai in the cheek and they yelped in surprise, “gah!”
Lai gasped and covered his mouth, “oh no-*huck!*-o, are you ok?”
Calypso couldn't help but start chuckling again, “oh my gosh!”
“The ultimate betrayal, and I was here for you the whole time,” Kai lamented overdramatically.
With the overtheatrics, Lai was able to tell that Kai was just joking, but he still felt bad and inspected her cheek.
“I'm fine, Lai, don't worry,” Kai caressed his cheek softly, “you're so sweet for caring so much.”
Lai blushed slightly and kissed their injured cheek anyway, deciding to get out of the car to give his wings more room to breathe.
“I'm sorry,” Lai whispered.
“I promise, it's all good, suggs,” Kai reassured him as they got out of the car and gave the smaller angel a hug, shaking alongside him when the next *hippup!* shook his form. “You sure those don't hurt? They seem really strong…”
Lai shrugged as he nuzzled into the hug, wanting nothing more than to cuddle up with his loves and take a nap. “Don't hurt, *hup!* but tired.”
“Aww, is it nap time for our lil angel?” Calypso cooed as she got out of the car, overhearing everything.
Lai blushed and looked away, muttering, “m'not li–little right now…”
“Is Caly making you uncomfortable?” Kai asked and with Lai slightly shrugging, Calypso finally got the message.
“Oh shit, sorry, am I breaking boundaries?” she looked at Lai with an unhealthy amount of sympathy that wasn't meant for a demon. “You can let me know when I've pushed too far. I know I'm a demon and all and teasing is in my nature, that's no excuse for making you uncomfortable. I lo-...care about you a lot, and I don't wanna hurt you.”
The demon blushed a deep red and continued, “I know I'm fucked up, but I fuck up too sometimes. A-and I really don't mean to, not when it comes to you and Kai.”
Lai released the hug from Kai and hugged Calypso, “it's okay, Caly. I kno-*hup!*-know you're trying. You… *hip!* well, both of us really, we're going against what's been ingrained in our mi-*hilp*-minds since forever, so we'll be patient.”
Calypso's eyes looked away as she slightly teared up, but she wouldn't admit that. She hugged Lai back, tightly and securely in a big bear hug. “I'll always be grateful for you, even if I don't say it often.”
“I know,” Lai smiled and whispered to her.
Kai smiled at the two of them before going to their apartment and unlocking the door. She grabbed the bags and her drink, “you two, don't forget your drinks.”
Calypso perked up and released the hug, “coming!”
She smiled back at Lai, kissing his forehead softly before grabbing her drink. Lai smiled slightly, sighing happily. He loved his family, flaws and all.
+ Extra
Lai also went to the car and grabbed his drink, slowly sipping, prepared this time. He smiled at the sweet milk. It kind of reminded him of the angel milk Kai or Caly would make him when he was in littlespace.
Lai walked into the apartment and closed the door behind himself. That's when he realized and patted his chest, slightly disappointed.
Kai picked up on the disappointment, “what's the matter, Sprout?”
“My hiccups are gone,” he pouted.
Calypso couldn't catch her snort in time, but tried covering it up with a cough.
“Aww, I'm sure they'll come back some-”
Suddenly, their conversation was interrupted by a loud, nasally *HNGK!*. Kai and Lai looked at each other confused before turning to Calypso, whose eyes widened like saucers. One hand covered her mouth while the other held her chest.
“I think I found out where your hiccups went,” Kai hid their smirk as Lai giggled quietly.
“This isn't *hnk!* fun-*hngkup!*‐funny,” Calypso pouted as her stomach jiggled slightly and visibly seen from her crop top.
“Wow, who knew demons had to deal with hiccups?” Lai crossed his arms teasingly, giving Calypso a taste of her own medicine.
“Karma's a bitch,” Kai shook their head.
“I ha-*hngk!NK!*-ate both of y-*hnk!mp!*-you, fuck!” Calypso ranted as her hiccups jolted her all over the place.
“No you don't~” Lai smirked, slightly enjoying this.
When Calypso whined, Kai relented and walked over to her, “okay, okay, let's try this…” and without warning or hesitation, they kissed her lips.
Calypso's eyes widened in shock, before she closed her eyes and kissed back, periodically jolting with silent or muffled hiccups. After a long period free from hiccups, Kai released the kiss.
“Wow…what was that *hnk'l!* for?” Calypso blushed.
“I was trying to cure your hiccups, but, uh, kinda got carried away,” Kai also blushed.
“Wait, you thought *hngk!* kissing me would help?” Calypso looked confused, but also amused.
“I-I dunno! It works in shows and books, thought maybe it'd be worth a try…but let me get you some water.” Kai quickly escaped to the kitchen while Calypso waited in the living room.
“Adorable,” Calypso snorted, quickly followed by a “*hurk!*-ugh, hate these thi—ings.” She patted her chest as another long silent hiccup interrupted her breathing cycle. She looked back at Lai, who was just watching her intrigued with that innocent look in his eyes. “And just wha-*hngk!*‐at are you looking at?”
Lai only giggled quietly, sitting criss-cross-applesauce. Calypso instantly recognized the signs and smiled softly.
Kai returned with the water, “here's your water.”
“Thanks, but *hnk!* I think I'll let these *hngkup!*-ah, run their course,” Calypso nodded her head in Lai's direction.
Kai looked at the angel and smiled, going over and kneeling to his level, “Bun? How old are you feeling?”
Lai looked at Kai, nervous that he'd been caught, but shyly held up three fingers. Kai smiled and stroked his hair, “mama's little angel after all.”
Lai blushed slightly and kept watching Calypso hiccuping away, giggling at all the different nasally sounds they prompted.
Kai giggled quietly, “are mommy's hiccups funny to you?”
Lai giggled adorably and nodded his head, “ya!”
“Well, Squirt *hnk‐ah!*, enjoy them whi-*iccup!*-while you ca-*hnnnk!*-an, ah,” Calypso rubbed her chest. “Cuz I m–MIght have to ge-*hnk'l!hngk!*-get rid of these soon.”
Lai bursts into laughter at all the funny sounds and Calypso couldn't help but smile. She realized a little discomfort was worth seeing Lai so happy and relaxed. Besides, after all the laughing she'd done at him earlier, she kinda deserved it.
“Want me to put your boba tea in your sippy cup, baby?” Kai gently took the half full cup of boba tea as Lai nodded.
With another loud *HNK!HNGK-UP!* Calypso winced and drank her water calmingly. Once the demon finished drinking the water, she took a deep breath in and out. She sighed in relief, “sorry, bud, but they were starting to hurt.”
Lai shrugged and yawned widely, rubbing an eye with his fist. Kai quickly returned with the sippy cup of boba tea, without the tapioca so nothing would get stuck, “here you go, Bun.”
“Dank you, mama,” Lai murmured, smiling at the soft kiss that Kai placed on his forehead, “can snuggle with mama an’ mommy an’ Goldie? An’ watch fish movie? Pwease?”
“Awww, of course, munchkin,” Kai smiled sweetly, “do you wanna watch in the living room or our room?”
“Our room,” Lai yawned again and reached up for Kai to hold him.
Kai obliged and picked up Lai, holding him close and secure, “you got it. Come on, Caly.”
“I'm coming, I'm just grabbing my tea,” Calypso grabbed her tea before they all headed to the master bedroom.
That night was spent with the three of them, and Lai's dog plushie named Goldie, snuggling and watching a marathon of movies. Lai couldn't be happier, sandwiched between his two car.egiv.ers. And that's how they all fell asleep, bundled up in soft blankets and cuddled up to each other. It was peaceful.
