Honestly I think part of why polyamory makes the most sense for the literature club is because of the structure of side stories. We literally are shown an intense, intimate connection built between each of the characters on an individual basis, with the relationships also interweaving and supporting each other as the arc progresses. Then it ends by affirming how valuable all of these bonds are and the way they come together to form the mutually supportive environment of the club.
When you add that to the idea that one way to add autonomy back into a dating sim with multiple routes is to remove the exclusivity of the romances, and the attraction that all of the girls seem to show to one another in the base game (though I'll admit I'm mainly thinking of Sayori quotes), poly dokis becomes an obviously plausible endgame.
