After Alastorâthe man she found a friend in, her dearest stepfatherâhad so kindly provided her with an immensely satisfying dinner, Polly was blown away. He, His Majesty and Mr. Voxâthree powerful luminariesâhad created a beautiful family!Â
A bundle of joy, it was. Full of ever so charming animals, a lovely little daughterâŠand now, her. She had a family. One that practically smothered her troubles away with mirth and compassion.
She knew she had to try and be a better uplifter for her delightful . The main question was, how?
More flowers? That may have been overdue. Cookies? She wanted to wait and see if Mr. Vox was able to visit from upstairs so she could make some for him, as well.
What if she fixed them some nice drinks? That would be wonderful. Sheâd learned a little while ago that if sheâd just mixed strawberries with left out tonic water andâŠsemi-good lemons, it made for a delicate strawberry cordial.Â
All of the kids who were much smaller than she was had always liked it, and as far as she knew, a strong aversion to strawberries wasnât all that common. If it turned out that either of them loathed strawberries, it would be rather embarrassingâŠ
Just to make sure it looked appealing, sheâd gotten up exceedingly early and bought an ice cube pack from a supermarket. Mint leaves, too, for good measure (she really had to search for those). Once she got back, it was then she realized that if they wanted drinks, they could just go to Mr. Husk. Oh, well!
She prepared the two glasses and she carefully walked over to Alastorâs room, afraid they would spill.
âAre you there, Mr. Alastor? Itâs Polly!âŠIâve made you and His Majesty a drink.â She briefly attempted to peer through the keyhole.
Alastor was curled up in a spinny chair, scribbling down notes for a script when he heard a knock at the door, and a familiar chipper voice.
He scooted the chair back, keeping it from rolling away as he did, and made his way to the door, opening it.
