My view of Representative Democracy is that where it works, it is fine. Â Introducing it as a curb within a flourishing existing political system is risky, and the actual benefits are doubtful. Â And expecting it to reliably deliver what the majority want is unrealistic and contradicted by actual experience. Â At best, it can allow radical demands to be met without revolution and the consequent painful loss of political continuity and legitimacy.
