Anti Abortion Law in Poland
Iâm not going to lie, itâs bad in here. A couple million of people are out on the streets almost everyday, screaming and fighting for their right of abortion. But please, let me explain what actually is going on.Â
Letâs start with a little backstory.Â
Poland is a very rightsided country, when it comes to politics. There are a lot of people hating on LGBTQ+ community, our president called them an âideologyâ earlier this year, the goverment is doing whatever the fuck they want and nobody can do anything to stop them.Â
The subject of abortion may be the worst subject for out goverment. The far-right party that is right now ruling Poland (PiS- Prawo i SprawiedliwoĹÄ, so Law and Justice) hates it and doesnât want to hear anything about it, well maybe except when someone wants to ban it.Â
Up until this Thursday, Polish women could get abortion under 3 circumstances:
1) if the baby was sick/dead/deformedÂ
2) if the baby was a result of rape/incestÂ
3) if the motherâs life or health is in danger
Itâs not much, but itâs been enough for us, Polish women, knowing that we canât do anything more with this goverment.
But then, in 2016, it all started to go to shit. Polish citizens collected around half a million signatures under a project of a bill that was initiated by said citizens. The bill was called âStop abortionâ and people wanted women to go to jail for terminating their pregnancies in certain circumstances. It didnât happen, but it was a close call.Â
Then 2017 and 2018 came and with them a new anti abortion law proposition. This one organization called âRatujmy kobiety 2017âł (Save Women 2017) wanted to make abortion legal under all circumstances up until the 12th week of pregnancy. They were accused of lying about how many people signed the bill project, politicians rejected it and started to work on a bill that happened just a few days ago.
22.10.2020, thatâs the date that started the revolution. TrybunaĹ Konstytucyjny (so a law organ that decides if something is illegal or unlawful) decided that the first circumstance under which you can get an abortion (so if the baby is sick beyond help/dead/deformed) is unlawful and the Polish Constitution forbids it (BULLSHIT).
From this day on, Polish women will be forced to give birth to deformed beyond recognition children that are going to live for a few days, only for them to be christened, named and then buried (these are the words of JarosĹaw KaczyĹski- a very important politician in Poland). Not only is it a human right violation and taking away the choice from Polish women, itâs also just inhuman. May I add, they did it in the middle of a global PANDEMIC, because they thought that it would stop people from protesting. Well, think again.Â
Imagine that youâre carrying your baby for 9 months knowing itâs not going to live or itâs going to suffer everyday because of some sickness. Thatâs just sick and wrong. Imagine having to abandon all the plans for your life, having to take care of you sickly child for 24/h, not getting any help from the country (disabled and sick people in Poland have it bad here, they get a little financial help, have to beg physicians to help them, because there is a shortage of them and usually live in poverty) and doing it all against your will.Â
Personally, I wholeheartedly admire all those strong women out there that take care of their disabled/sick children, but I honestly donât know if I could ever do it. Itâs just so, so hard. Thatâs why we need to have a choice.
Thatâs where the revolution starts.Â
People are going out of their houses to protest, they walk on the main streets and block them, shout âWypierdalaÄâ (get the fuck out) to our politicians responsible for it, they go inside churches with signs. These people are crying, suffering on the streets, they are seriously pissed off and I promise you that the gas and loads of police is not going to change anything. Poles are fucking angry,Â
And yet, nobody in the world seems to care. I know that everyone has their own problems, that all countries are in a very bad situation, that Black Lives Matter is really important and people tend to focus on that.Â
But please, for the love of God, help us. We need all the attention we can get, any help we can get really. Reblog, comment, reblog again, tell your friends and family, post about it on social media, make the world notice our misery.Â
If u want to help financially, there is a link to Abortional Drem Team (a Polish organization helping women) site, where they are looking for donations.Â

keep in mind that 1 dollar = 3,86 zĹotych, so yeah, every penny helps
There are some photos and videos from the marches and different protest from all around the country.Â
