Franciszka Mann (1917-1943) was a Polish Jewish dancer. On October 23, 1943 a transport of around 1,700 Polish Jews arrived on passenger trains at the death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Mann, along with that group, was taken into a room next to a gas chamber and ordered to undress. There she managed to distract and then attack officer Josef Schillinger, hitting him with her high-heel shoe. The officer dropped his gun which Mann quickly grabbed, shot Schillinger killing him instantly, and wounded another officer. She was executed later the same day.
