𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐒  𝐃𝐎𝐍𝐓  𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄  𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐒.  verso  learned  this  when  he  was  eight,  when  his  mother  was  strung  out  on  the  couch  and  speaking  truths  to  him  that  were  best  left  unsaid.  between  the  murmurs  of  how  little  she  wanted  a  child  and  how  devastating  her  love  for  him  was,  she  revealed  that  moths  do  not  like  flames.  they  are  nocturnal  bugs,  and  so  they  follow  the  slivers  of  moonlight  to  navigate.  the  flame  does  not  entice  them;  it  confuses  them.  it  renders  them  maddened  and  frenzied  as  they  try  to  fly  away,  as  their  bodies  reject  the  notion,  as  their  senses  spiral  all  towards  that  consuming  blaze.  

moths  don’t  like  flames.  they  get  confused  by  them,  then  burned  by  them,  then  killed  by  them.

'mon chéri, do you not think a visit to dear annette's salon would be a most wonderful diversion?' it may be phrased as an open-ended question, but even in her current state of animated enthusiasm, lise is acutely aware of what her husband's response will likely be. she is a creature of light and laughter, a being who must be surrounded at all times by gaiety and entertainment while andrei is a being that continues to evade her understanding. had his ways and manners always been so confounding to her or had he changed?

Nan tore through the trees half-blind, red clouding the edges of her vision. White-hot rage filled the holes in her memory until there was nothing but murderous ire pushing her forward -- and the fear of what might have happened if she hadn't abandoned the busy roadway to the south. Sanity hung by a thread, held in place by the pain of her teeth clamped down on her hand.

The house in the woods seemed gods-sent, a safe place to wait out the fever even as her hands itched for the hammer, the blade, anything. Nan burst through the door without thinking, nearly throwing it off the hinges --

And froze.

There was a woman.

A deliciously fragile, mortal woman, alone and unable to call for help.

READING! reading. reading reading. aurelia either has a book in her hand, a book in her tote bag or a book nearby. she is a bibliophile at heart and she chose her current apartment solely based on the fact that it had the potential for ample bookshelves. she enjoys several of the classics (tolstoy, austen, bronte sisters, greek tragedies), but she also loves modern psychological thrillers and adores gillian flynn's books. she also loves nonfiction books, particurarly those written on niche historical subjects, and she enjoys touting the knowledge she learns from them.

surprisingly (because it involves being around other people), aurelia also loves watching plays and shows! she loves a good greek tragedy adaptation, especially those based on euripides' plays and she has a fondness (that she's embarrassed to admit) for musicals. her particular favorites are chicago and cabaret because of the storylines and aesthetics.

the  last  time  he  was  conscious,  he  was  in  new  jersey  and  trying  to  find  his  keys.  the  wood  ‘neath  his  head  is  unfamiliar,  the  sound  of  laughter  even  more  so  —  bile,  bitterness  stirs  in  the  back  of  his  throat.  he  pries  himself  upright,  runs  his  left  hand  down  his  face.  the  smile  is  not  his.  it  disappears  ‘neath  his  palm  and,  when  his  eyes  find  the  unfortunate  fool  beside  him,  is  replaced  with  dread.  eldritch  amusement  ricochets  between  the  corners  of  his  skull.

lavender  doesn’t  care  for  slashers.  they  are  largely  her  LEAST  favorite  kind  of  horror  movie,  in  fact,  primarily  because  they  make  little  to  no  sense:  they’re  fun  to  watch,  sure,  but  EVERYBODY  knows  that  the  slasher  doesn’t  obey  the  rules.  they  teleport  when  you’re  not  looking.  they  walk  at  the  pace  everyone  else  sprints.  if  you  think  they  aren’t  around,  not  only  are  they  directly  behind  you,  but  they’ve  already  got  their  KNIFE  in  your  BACK.
