My Love / Hate Relationship
I love hiking. Next to God and my family, it might be my favorite thing. Get up early in the morning and head to my place of conquer for the day. There is nothing better than starting a great hike. The anticipation. When you finally arrive at the trail head, make sure that you pack is set and sign the hiker register, it is the best!
The ascent on a gorgeous day is amazing. To look and see God's creation in nature is awesome. Mt. Katahdin in Maine and Mt. Washington in New Hampshire are great. I love reaching the summit. Knowing that you have accomplished your goal and done what you have set out to do is the best. I love having my photo taken at the top with the sign. Success! Mt. Washington is a bit frustrating as people can also drive up. I'm sorry, but I would never had my picture taken with a summit sign that I drove up. King of like hockey players not touching the Stanley Cup until they win it.
Fast forward a few hours and I'm making the descent. My legs are killing me. There are times near the end of a long hike that my legs just about give out on the final miles. I am so exhausted I just want to be at the end. I say I hate this and will never hike again, knowing full well that I don't mean it, but I am just overcome with exhaustion. That lasts until I get to the parking lot. I love hiking Mt. Washington and starting at the Pinkham Notch Visitor's Center. The people of the AMC are great there and I enjoy that you can shower right there. By the time I shower, I'm refreshed and ready to do it again, well, maybe.
I love talking to others along the trail. Finding out about them, where they are from, etc. It is just the best. I could head back out again tomorrow, but at last, I must return to work. That is a glimpse of Laura's Maine for today.
