PKP class Pm36 - the aerodynamic steam locomotive

Pm36 was an experimental 4-6-2 (2'C1', "Pacific") steam engine designed by Fablok engineer Kazimierz Zembrzuski and his team in 1936 to serve as an express train.

Rewatch am Samstag. Da es bei dieser Folge schon wichtig ist zu erwähnen: Beim rewatch nehme ich die Dinge zwar immer noch gut wahr, aber eben weniger als beim ersten Mal. Weil man die Dinge ja schon kennt etc, deswegen nehme ich die Gefühlswelt von Ash hier anders war als beim ERSTEN schauen. Ist glaube ich normal, wollte es dennoch erwähnen.

Den Gesang in der Episode durch Libelldras Flügel fand ich btw echt nice. Gibt so eine mysteriöse Atmosphäre, besonders im Sturm selbst.

Ich find Memmeon immer noch zu gut in der Szene. Das wirkt irgendwie niedlich so nur mit den Googles und den Lauten :D

Hab genau sind gute Shots von Ashs Gefühlswelt hier. Ich LIEBE diese Shots ja an sich immer, weil ich die Stilmittel für Ash immer gut finde. Auf sowas achte ich halt und sowas schätze ich auch echt wert, wenn er da solche Szenen hat. Ich find die Shots halt immer gut und in dieser Folge gab es reichlich davon. Wenn er down ist und beim erholen.

Ich fand Ash aber auch so gut hier, nicht nur die Shots an sich. Wie gut sie es gezeigt haben, dass die Niederlagen doch mehr an Ash kratzen und er sogar i Kampf gegen Libelldra irritiert war. Nachdem die ersten Hälfte ja eher auf lustig machte, fand ich es dann echt super und so, dass später dann seine Zweifel auftauchten und er nicht so wirklich an sich glaubte. Für mich ist sowas IMMER super schön und ich fiebere dann auch mit seiner Gefühlslage mit. 

Bin auch froh, dass seine Niederlage gegen Bea noch mehr bietet als nur seine Szenen sofort nach dem Kampf. Folge 35 hatte davon ja nicht, aber dafür sind sie hier drauf eingegangen und zwar echt gut. Sogar Gou gut dafür eingebaut und so. Auch die Shots nachdem er wieder nen klaren Kopf bekommt, sind gut. Dass mit dem Lächeln, aber dennoch Cap runter, ist auch so ein Stilmittel, aber ich kann das Gefühl gerade nicht benennen. Auch wie er dann in einem Frame noch leicht wehmütig schaut, aber eher nicht wegen etwas nostalgischem (Whemut ist ja eher nostalgisch, keine Ahnung was hier der Fall ist) Das er erkennt, wie er sich Verhalten hat und wie dumm er war. Sagte er ja selbst danach.

Folge 36 fand ich riichtig gut wieder. Der Plot der Folge war eher normal, aber der Dialog und die Thematik mit Ash waren richtig gut umgesetzt, besonders gegen Ende. Wir hatten Ash down wegen seinen Niederlagen und das haben sie hier richtig gut umgesetzt und wieder Shots eingebaut, die ich richtig gut finde. Gou war am Ende auch super und der Grund, wieso Ash da neue Kraft gewonnen hat.

Also das war eher der Fokus der Folge. Gou hat die Knacklion Reihe gefangen, aber erst bei Libelldra ging es ab. Vom Kampf UND Dialog her.

Wie man es so oft kennt: Erste Szenen der Folge wird trainiert, aber diesmal eher körperlich und für alle. So starten sie auch gleich in die ersten Kämpfe der Folge.

Ash hat ZWEI Kämpfe hintereinander verloren. Was ich zwar lustig, aber erst komisch fand: Ash war da zwar down, aber es wurde eher humorvoll gezeigt. Luste Ausdrücke und halt keine ernste Reaktion von Ash. Das kam SPÄTER dann aber.

Beide hatten auch PKMN, die wie Kaocto waren. Tintenfisch ähnlich und mit Tentakeln, weil das ja die Hürde sein wird für das Rematch. Und mit diesen PKMN konnten sie es auch so einbauen, dass Ash richtig unsicher ist, wegen der Erfahrung mit Kaocto.

Da war es noch lustig gezeigt. Ash ein wenig down, aber alles mit guten Ausdrücken und ich find lustig wie seine Stimmung hier wieder nach oben geht, aber später sofort wieder unten, weil erneut eine Niederlage.

Keine Sorge, ist ja nichts. Hier war ich sogar ein wenig irritiert, dass sie es so lustig zeigen. Dachte da, dass sie Ash so schnell nicht erneut ersthaft verzweifeln lassen wollen. Deswegen auch der Humor.

Es ist halt aber dennoch lustig. Besonders wie er da in der Ecke hockt. Das ist halt wieder etwas, was dann auch eher zu diesem Design passt. Auch wieder Abwechslung von Ash in dieser Serie, denn so oft sehen wir seine Niedergeschlagenheit nicht so humorvoll verpackt.

YO die coolen bois am Start :D So cool so ne kleine Szene verpackt und wie die auch alle grinsen. UND in die Kamera schauen.

UND MEMMEON, der unsichtbare boi, irritiert alle xD Alle erstmal Panik, weil da ne schwebende Brille ist xD Für sowas ist Memmeon echt gut gemacht und ich find den Laut von es in dieser Szene so süß. Messo?

Gou fängt Knacklion und Vibrava easy peasy. Nichts beeindruckendes, außer eben seine krassen Kurvenbälle. Wenn der Baseball spielen würde, würde die niemand treffen und sein Team immer gewinnen.

Bei Libeldlra ging es dann richtig los. Mich interessiert nicht mal, dass Gou so ein krasses PKMN gefangen hat, weil ich die Umstände gut fand und mich der Dialog eher gecatched hat als das es mich nervt.

Hier fängt es erst richtig an und ich finde es immer super, wenn sie sowas machen. Vorher wurde es mit Humor gespielt, aber hier zeigen sie Ashs Zweifel echt sehr gut mit seinen Blicken, die ihn zweifeln lassen bzw nicht nach nach Selbstbweusstsien aussehen. HIER bauen sie Ash mit seinen Gefühlen der Niederlagen ein.

Ash macht sogar Fehler, weil er durch die Niederlagen selbst zweifelt und wohl mit seinen Gedanken noch woanders ist. Hier ist es mal positiv, dass er Boden mit Elektro angreift, weil es dazugehört. Er ist halt nicht ganz bei sich.

Schnell Memmeon zurückrufen, denn NIEMAND kann hier das ansteckende Wienen gebrauhen :D Aber armes Memmeon. Letzte Folge auch schon nen Angriff einstecken müssen.

Ich werde diese Shots alle noch in den Emotions tag posten, aber während Ash kämpft hat er immer noch Zweifel, weil kein Angriff etwas bringt und hier mag ich es immer noch wie sie auf die Niederlagen einbauen. Dass er da erstmal nichts macht, weil er so in Gedanken wegen den Kämpfen ist und auch nicht mehr an seine Taktik etc glaubt. Auch gut mit der Cap nach unten, denn das wirkt bei ihm echt richtig super.

Das wird jetzt n bisschen unüberichtlich, aber Gou dient in dem Kampf als der, der richtig selbstsicher ist und so ist er ein Kontrast zu Ash, der ja den Kampf schon aufgegeben hatte. Bei Gou fragte er sich auch oft wieso dies und das, denn durch seine Niederlagen hat er da zweifel und hinterfragt es.

Gou IST in dem Kampf echt gut.

Kickerlo ging AB! Die haben echt so ne Ash Taktik genutzt. Gou sagt es später selbst, aber sowas ist echt von Ash. Dass er auf Draco Meteor springt und mi einem der Meteore Glut nutzt. Hat mich btw an Kalos erinnert, gegen Arena 2. Aber wird ja nichs erwähnt so.

Gou hat SO recht. Da kommt noch mehr, weswegen ich hier wieder mehr Screenshots in nem Post habe als sonst. Aber Gou war der Kontrast. Dass Gou Taktiken nutzt, die Ash erst hinterfragt, weil er selbst unsicher wurde, aber dann Gou ihn aufheitert und erinnert, dass er das von Ash gelernt hat.

Der letzte Teil war auch wieder schön. Nachdem Gou paar gute Dialoge hatte von wegen ‘hat er von Ash gelernt, weil das seine crazyness ist’’ und ‘wir mussten es mit Glut beenden, weil wir das gelernt haben’, hat Ash dann auch wieder durchgeblickt.

Ist schwer zu erklären, aber Gous Worte haben ihm die Augen geöffnet und der Dialog war eecht gut imo. Auch schön von Gou.

Besonders dieser Dialog von Gou hat Ash daran erinnert wie sie trainiert haben und so, weil Ash in den Kämpfen hier ja auf Distanz gehen wollte. Ist schwer zu erklären imo, aber Gou hat ihm die Augen geöffnet und Ash hat gegen Ende auch wieder was gelernt. Fand die Szenen echt super schön.

Diese ganze Szene hat RICHTIG Alola vibes gehabt. Aber so RICHTIG! Es kommt so kaum vor und passt auch nicht zu jedem Design etc, dass er so casual sich hinlegt und dann auch in guten Gedanken ist. Das find ich ja von der Szene schon süß und wie die beiden sich auch an Ash schmiegen, Das hat einfach so ne schöne Atmosphäre.  Zumal kam das auch so casual und ruhig. Ash hat die Augen geöffnet bekommen und hat sich hingelegt. Ist auch so ne Geste und Stilmittel. Auch in Real Life.

Ist einfach richtig schön und die ganze Folge fand ich persönlich echt gut. Nicht der krasseste Plot oder Animation, aber etwas, was sich zb auch sehr oder sogar mehr schätze: Guter Dialog und gute Gefühlslagen der Charaktere. Außerdem, weil es um Ash ging, seine guten Shots, wenn er mal down ist oder so. Da waren eine MENGE hier und alle passen und machten die Folge für mich besser. Besonders ab Libelldra.

As John mentioned in his writeup, the G. Gerlach PM36 series is based on two trains created by Polish manufacturer FABLOK.  These were known as the PM36-1 (which had an aerodynamic fairing) and the PM36-2 (which had a more traditional look).  Fittingly, these are the model designations that are carried over to the watches; our review unit (with the white dial) is the PM36-1.  If you ever forget which train your watch is honoring, you can check the case back, as the two models have two different images etched there.

When I got the watch in, you could tell the cardboard box had had a rough travel over the sea.  No matter, though, because inside is a rather nice (and solidly-built) wooden box, held shut with a magnetic enclosure.  When I opened that box, I was struck by the watch in a way the promotional pictures really did not do.  At first, it was just the great font they used for the numerals, which really does give it that vintage pocket watch feel.

But as I spent more time with the G. Gerlach PM36, I realized that the dial had a sheen of it’s own, something that could not be attributed just to the sapphire crystal.  I spoke to the brand, and wouldn’t you know it – the dial is indeed an enamel dial.  Totally fitting for the era it is honoring, but totally unexpected from a watch that is not from a luxury brand.  Along with the sheen, there’s a richness that comes to the dial, something that more than makes up for the dial itself being a wide, flat expanse.

This is because the 43mm G. Gerlach PM36 has a fairly slender coin-edge bezel, which means the dial is quite large.  This fits with the idea of coming from an era where watches transitioned from pockets to wrists, and legibility is of course no problem on a dial this clean and large.  I do wish the cathedral handset was a touch wider for the scale, but their lengths are spot-on.  Rounding out the dial, you have the sub-seconds register taking up residence at the 6 o’clock position, under which you have the words “Made in Poland” hiding in plain sight.

With a case this big, you might be wondering what movement (in this case, a hand-wound one) is driving the G. Gerlach PM36.  While there are brands out there refurbishing vintage pocket watch movements, they have instead gone with something quite a bit more modern – a Seagull ST3620 (which is based off of the Unitas 6497/6498).  In the time I spent with the watch, the movement was not appreciably losing or gaining time, and the hand-wound power reserve easily made it through the day and into the next, with plenty left to spare.

For the review, our G. Gerlach PM36 came with a mesh bracelet, which went quite well with the polished finish of the case.  Let’s not underestimate the looks of that polish, either.  When you have a 43mm case that stands 13mm tall, you’ve got a lot of surface that can catch the light.  On the black dial, you get a sand-blasted case, which also looks quite nice.  Almost a shame you can’t choose which one you want with your dial choice.  Regardless, the bracelet went well, and I found it to be quite comfortable.  These mesh bracelets generally fit the wrist quite well (as this one does) and are all-but-infinitely adjustable, so you can get the exact fit you want.

Also of benefit with that bracelet is the fact that the G. Gerlach PM36 carries a 100m WR rating.  No mean feat considering that large crown is not a screw-down crown – it just slides into position 0, and there you go.  That does make winding the watch a cinch (even if you’re wearing it), and of course adjusting the time is just as easy.

If you could not tell from the article, I did rather enjoy my time with the $331 G. Gerlach PM36.  It has a lot of wrist presence without being overbearing, and brings some excellent vintage touches to the party.  It does work well in a variety of situations, though if it were a touch slimmer (say, 11mm rather than 13mm) then it would be an easy shoe-in for your favorite dress watch.  Being a Polish brand, you are not likely to find these to handle in person, but I do not think you will be disappointed if you like the vintage style of railroad watches.  G. Gerlach has been producing quite a variety of watches, and this latest, the G. Gerlach PM36, I think is my favorite to-date from them.  gerlach.org.pl

Would I wear it?: Yes, yes I would.  This is a beauty, and it does quite a lot in an simple way

What I’d change: I wouldn’t mind the handset being a touch wider.  Oh, and the option to select the case finish for either dial.

The best thing about it: That dial – between the enamel and the great font for those numerals, it is indeed a looker
