#( you rented my queue. )#( the only word on me. )#one of my favourite novellas for the language and thematic elements.#obviously it was an inspiration for the characters of bruce/hulk too.#but i think the parallels go much deeper than the simple juxtaposition of personalities and identities (which most people do see).#it addresses the lack of inhibitions and newfound freedoms that come with a new persona. not having to feel obligated re: social norms.#and raises the questions of which persona is more valid. which one has a more acceptable place in society.#and the consequences of choosing the one that isn't accepted.#plus...#how the negative connotations for one persona might be socially constructed and not necessarily inherent.#because those negative connotations are built around breaking rules that were created by people and based on a certain moral code.#but yeah. freedom.#bruce experiences that freedom as the hulk. i think that's been touched on in the comics (chaos war iirc?).#i think i've addressed it a few times in my meta too. and i've definitely been wanting to address it more in my in-character content.#of course that freedom has a drawback. it comes back to bite him a lot once he reverts and needs to hold himself accountable.#which is again parallel to what jekyll experiences.#anyways thanks for coming to my ted talk.
