My most developed playlist was put together for my Draco/Hermione fic, Manacled, it’s a mixture of songs I found, as well as songs that were recommended to me by readers that really fit my mood when writing.

I am actually really, really bad at finding new music, and I tend to find a single song that fits my writing mood for a story, and then I listen to it over and over a hundred million times until the fic is done.

I find that listening to fitting music when I’m writing drafts can sometimes be very helpful for getting into the emotional headspace I want/envision. Then when I revise, I do so without music and I’m able to see the emotional gaps and lack of mood setting that the music had created for me, and work to add details and language that feels similarly evocative.
