Like, the whole Light-Bringer thing just seals the deal for me, to be honest. 

And the demons said they heard something from the Cage...that’s Lucifer and/or Michael letting out a desperate cry--a warning--seemingly regarding the Darkness. 

So I’m pretty damn sure that this isn’t canon, but for the sake of AUs and fanfic, mostly, what if Lucifer is the one sending Sam the visions? Maybe he only is able to get a message out of the Cage because he and Michael have decided to put aside their personal quarrels in order to help fight the Darkness in any way they can. 

Wait okay SO let me make sure I’ve got this. 

Benny runs a Fact or Faked kind of show, and his right-hand tech guys (Sam and Dean) are paranormal humanoids.

When they look at humans, they see their souls, not just their physical appearances. There’s this light and shape that rests in its own form of existence, sort of like an angel’s grace, and then there’s this outline of a human shape around them that appears when the angel takes a vessel in the physical realm.

Angels have no concept of gender, though. They simply are. One individual is different from the next, and there is no need to assign roles for sex or reproduction. When new angels appear, they are formed from grace alone.

They understand that some vessels feel different from others. Some human vessels lament over being ostracized because of this concept of “gender roles.” They pray for any sort of release that isn’t death, and the ones who believe in the possibility of higher power(s) are visited by angels. This doesn’t happen too often, of course, but sometimes it does, and the angels are confused, but they are more than happy to help the despairing humans if they can get vessel consent out of it.

So when an angel chooses a vessel, it’s all based on the soul of the individual and the human’s consent. Nothing else.
