How to Achieve the Ideal Studyspace
So I’ve seen a lot of posts on how to study best to your ability, and it says a lot of the time to have a good study area, a spot where you only do work.
Thing is, I haven’t seen a lot of posts on how to create that space.
I’ve compiled a list of tips to help people to be able to keep an organized, productive, and motivating study space. Keep in mind that these tips might not work for you, maybe one tip may help, but the others suck!! Everyone is different, but I suggest you try and apply some of this advice to your studying life.
Assign a place to be your studying space
-Make sure you won’t be doing anything except work and such in this space
-If you want it to be your bed, that won’t really work!! You sleep there and if you are trying to be productive there, the want to sleep and to stop working will be way intense. Also for me at least, making my bed everyday can be tough, and if you have it double as your space, then to make it is one more step until you can start working.
-An ideal study space is on a desk or table of some sort, preferably in an open area. For me, this helps me feel less trapped, and if I can continually see my work area, then I’ll eventually start working on the needed things.
-Make sure its a place where its quiet, with no distractions so you can actually get stuff done
Have your space be clean Part 1
-First you need to clean the space where your busy mind is going to work-Try and stack all of the papers that might be in your way and set them to the side, you can go over them later
-This step can be a bit criticized, but then put everything else on the space, onto the floor. This is so that way you can start putting only the necessary things on the area.
-We will continue this part a bit later, don’t worry!Decide what you need to study, and get you work done
-Maybe you need your computer, a calculator and a notebook here. Or perhaps you need your bullet journal, a textbook and your phone. Whatever it is, make a list of what you need, then gather all of the items on the list and put it by the area.-I like to keep this list, and when I’m done, rewrite it and tape or hang it on the wall. When I’m about to study I go over the checklist and make sure everything I need is there
Now to organization!!
-So now you should have everything around you that you need
-Try and designate certain areas for certain things. ex: Put all the textbooks under the desk, have a bin for all the papers that you need to go over and sort through, a jar for all the writing utensils, a place where your computer can sit, and a charger can easily reach.
-Take a picture after everything is in the location you desire. You can use this for reference later in order to remember where things go so you can stay organized. One option is to actually print this off and hang it near the list of supplies you need to study.
Cleaning Part 2
-Now take all of the excess stuff that is around your space, and put it where it goes! If it’s trash, throw it away. If you don’t quite know yet put it in an area you know that you will figure out where it goes really soon.
Random Tips
-Remove all of your distractions
-Make sure its at a good temperature, as I find it hard to focus when its literally freezing or unnecessarily hot
-Try and make it so you are in a good, healthy sitting position, not having your back slouched, make sure your screen is at eye level, etc.
-TAKE BREAKS!!! You aren’t a machine, no one can work or study continuously forever. Try and use the pomodoro technique to keep your productivity levels at max, and to keep you from feeling too exhausted
THE END
I want everyone to remember though, THE PERFECT STUDY SPACE DOESN’T EXIST
I hope this helps at least one person to get their ideal study space to remain productive and on task!!
Happy Studying, Caroline
