Hyun blinked down at the hand on her shoulder, before looking back up at Shujin. She very carefully brought her hand to rest around his waist, tilting her head to press against his shoulder. His hand that was on her shoulder had moved to where it was slung around her shoulders. She gave him a smile. “I can’t agree with you. If I just ignored what happened… I think I’d be worse off than I am now. But… I’m going to respect however you feel. So if you want to not think about it, I’ll respect that.” She drew away, marking down the things the taller had pulled down from the shelves she couldn’t reach. “I think he was a good person, at heart. I think everyone here was and is.” She made a sharp check on the coffee, reminding herself to make sure Ryu doesn't drink too much. “Maybe that's sorta naive of me. But if I spent my whole life not trusting others, I'd never have met the people I have in the right way. I wouldn't be friends with everyone here. People like Ezra, Haruki, Rinko… You, Shujin.” She gave him a fast smile. “Being untrustworthy seems awfully lonely.” Her eyes flashed for a moment, like she was remembering something, before they cleared and she absentmindedly clicked her pen once more. “And I'm not counting on anyone dying, but I promise Ryu won't learn about your cat. But again, I don't plan on anyone dying.” Her eyes hardened. “And I've said that before. I know it’s unlikely, but… if you just lose hope, there's no reason to keep going. And I want to keep going.” She turned to the next shelf, pulling down a few things and marking them down - sugar, flour, baking soda - before looking back at Shujin. “It would be so much easier to just stop. I've definitely entertained the idea. But I'm trying to live for everyone else. So they won't die. So I can keep an eye on them.” She smiled slightly, a miniscule wince scrunching her face up. “That. Probably sounds weird, but… I want to protect everyone here. No matter what.” @headofreservecoursecouncil
