Work and Play
by Marika Siewert
It is essential to our human minds and spirits to take the time to play amongst our work. We must remember to have fun before life passes us by. In our everyday, sometimes rigorous schedules, our bodies need time to rest and rejuvenate.  As well, we will benefit physically from all aspects of play. Here are some ideas for those who may struggle with time out to simply just play:
1. Try some new activities that you've never done before, like:
Rock climbing
Canoeing
Rollerblading
Bowling
Skiing
Hiking
Yoga
Slack lining
Capoeira
Archery
Biking
Sailing
2. Take a dance class - these are great to do solo or with a partner and as well as being lots of fun, it's great physical exercise.
3. Play WITH your kids. For those who are parents, we do a lot of watching our kids play, but we could also benefit from just loosening up and run around with them every so often.
4. Hang out with friends, have dinner, don't talk about work or business.  Plan more nights and events with friends to simply laugh, and have fun with.
5. Explore a new hobby. Think of something you always wanted to do as a child, or never got to do because of life circumstances, or perhaps you weren't brave enough before. Step out and take a risk. Learn to paint, or draw. Take a music lesson, or go and karaoke. Buy passes to the symphony, or to a local museum or art gallery. Volunteer with an organization that you are passionate about. Whatever it is, make it something you love.
