Like Iāve said in an earlierĀ post, I canāt read music, but I can play, and I can compose.Ā I just canāt write it down.Ā It never has been a problem, as far as me being able to play them whenever I want, because once itās there in my brain, itās there for good.Ā I donāt forget how to play it.Ā And yeah, lines and dots donāt mean music to me.Ā NorĀ does āmathā.Ā Ā
I have a buddy who says he canāt stand to hear Bach because he just sees numbers in his head.Ā I can safely say, Iāve *never* thought of numbers when Iāve heard Bach, nor when I play.Ā It just comes out...music is totally based in feeling and spirit, not math, for me.
I got a sense of timing, and a sense of arranging early on, back inĀ ā65, when I was six, when I heard Herb Alpert & the TJBāsĀ āWhipped Cream & Other Delightsā.Ā Yeah, they were cheeze, but they were TIGHT!Ā And the arrangements...I learned how toĀ ālayerā voices/instruments with that record.Ā I played it over and over as a kid.Ā I learned to appreciate a good arrangement through that record.
I wrote these āThree Tiny Piecesā back in 1987, Ā They just sorta came out one afternoon. Ā Theyāve never been written down, ever. Ā They are just etched in my brain.
Iāve loved classical music since I was in college back inĀ ā78, when I discovered Vladimir Horowitz and Guiomar Novaes.Ā These three little pieces were inspired by Novaesā Chopin recordings, which I still cherish.
The three movements are 1. Prelude, 2. Mazurka, and 3. Lullaby
This was recorded in 1998, in the same session as the previous tracks Iāve posted.Ā I would love to be able to re-record these, 21 years later.Ā On a REAL piano.
Hope you enjoy!Ā Please reblog and like and share if you wish!
