Peter knew everyone his age or close to it at the school at least thatâs what he thought before he saw her. He was on a run to kill off some of his energy when he noticed her leaning against a tree smiling as she read a book. She seemed so at peace in a way that Peterâs only ever dreamed of. While the world was moving slowly around him he had time to fully drink in her beauty and he knew he had to get to know her.
You were enjoying Pet Cemetery when a gust of wind caused the pages of the book to fly around making you lose your spot. The smile that was on your face falls being replaced with a frown of annoyance. You look up to see what couldâve caused the wind on such a perfect day to find one speedster in front of you. He pushes his goggles onto his head and takes his headphones out of his ears. The smirk on his face doesnât falter as you slam your book shut.
âDid I make you lose your spot?â You just glare at him as you stand up brushing any grass off of yourself. âWhoops, my bad. Whatâs a pretty girl like you doing out here all alone anyways?â
âItâs a beautiful day out and I enjoy my own company.â You shrug at him already forgiving him for making you lose your spot, you were never one for grudges.
âThe dayâs not as beautiful as you dollface.â You chuckle a bit at the nickname and he smiles at you. âIâm Peter, but you can call me anyday.â He winks and holds out his hand for you to shake.
âI know who you are. Nice to meet you Peter.â You shake his hand before putting your hand in your pocket.
âIâve never seen you around before.â
âThat makes sense, I wasnât here when you saved the whole school and tend to stick to myself.â
âSo whatâs your power?â You just smile and crouch down waving your hand to grow a white camellia before plucking it and putting it behind Peter's ear which causes him to blush. âGotta go see ya around!â He tries to speed off but trips and falls in front of you. He looks down at his feet seeing vines wrapped around them.
âWhoops, my bad.â You giggle and winked at him as you wave bye. Peterâs left there leaning on his elbows awestruck as you walk away.
The next day youâre sitting in your room listening to music and reading again when Peterâs speeding past. He stops at your open door and watches you nod your head to Abbaâs King Kong Song.Â
âSo Abba huh? Nice.â Heâs sitting on the chair in the corner of your room in no time causing you to jump into a sitting position on your bed, your book falling into your lap. Before you can even get annoyed at losing your spot you see that thereâs a bookmark sticking out of the pages. You look up at Peter whoâs taking in the room around him as if he didnât just do that. âYouâve got a pretty uh, green room.â He sounds shocked at all the plants in your room.
âWhat can I say, I have a green thumb.â You move to sit cross legged at the end of your bed to be closer to the silver haired boy.
âDo you ever actually hang out with other people or are you really just a hermit?â
âI told you, I tend to stick to myself. I hang out with Jubilee sometimes though, if you must know.â
âYou have gotta get more friends.â He leans forward in the chair and points at you as he speaks.
âKurts there sometimes too.â You shrug and stand up. âSpeaking of which I told them Iâd get lunch.â You stretch and walk over to the window to grab your bag from the floor and start to put your shoes on. âSo is you barging into my life gonna be a common thing now? Should I be worried that Iâm gonna have to look at you all the time?â
âI know youâre looking forward to seeing this face everyday.â
âSure whatever helps you sleep at night.â You walk up to him and grab his wrist to look at his watch. âShit I really gotta go. See you later Peter.â You make a blue iris come out of the pot in the window and put it behind his ear like yesterday before running out of the room. Peter stays in the chair for a minute twirling the flower around in his fingers before turning your radio off and speeding off.
You donât see Peter the next day and you find yourself feeling like something was missing. You had spent the day expecting him to pop up out of the blue. You had even gotten your hopes up when Kurt came knocking at your door to see if you wanted to hang out. You had agreed making sure he didnât see that you were slightly disappointed he wasnât Peter besides you liked Kurt and like Peter said you needed more friends so why not. The two of you spend the day sitting outside with you telling Kurt about flowers and how they can mean different things.
The next day Peter zips in front of you in the hall on your way to the garden causing you to trip over your own feet while trying to stop. Heâs quick to catch you though smirking at you in his arms.
âFalling for me already, Ivy?â
âIn your dreams. Did you just call me Ivy?â Once youâre back on your feet you continue your way to your destination.
âYeah, you know like Poison Ivy in the Batman comics since you guys do the same thing. You never gave me your name and I have to call you something.â
âOh, I guess I havenât. Well hi Peter, Iâm Y/n.â You stop and hold out your hand for him to take.
âBeautiful name for a beautiful girl.â You just roll your eyes at him and keep walking outside. âWhere are we off to anyway?â
âThe garden, I wanted to just sit with all the flowers for a while.â Peter follows you not saying how boring he thinks this is gonna be. Heâs just happy to be in your presence. Once you sit down in a nice sunny patch of grass you glance up at Peter whoâs glancing around. âWhere were you yesterday, I thought it was your mission to bug me.â
âAw did you miss me, Ivy? Iâm touched.âÂ
âNo, I was just curious. I ended up spending the day with Kurt anyway.â Sure you kinda missed him but you werenât about to let him know that.
âOh.â Peter sits next to you ignoring whatever pang of jealousy that rang through him. After a while of sitting there in silence you notice his foot start to tap at sitting still for so long.
âWhat did you do yesterday?â
âHonestly I slept most of the day.â Youâre both silent for a minute before he decides to speak again. âI missed you too by the way.â You smile as you rest your head on his shoulder and start to grow zinnias in an empty space next to you. âWhatâre you growing?â His voice is so soft and gentle when he speaks this time that you almost forget itâs Peter.
âZinnias, theyâre good for attracting butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. You canât be the only bugging thing around here you know.âÂ
The two of you spend the rest of the time together joking around until you doze off on his shoulder. Peter smiles down at you and scoops you up into his arms to take you to your room. And sure he could have you there in no time but he didnât want the nauseous feeling of the speed to wake you up and it was nice holding you in his arms and feeling your heat seep into him. As heâs about to walk away after putting you down you grab hold of his jacket sleeve and pull him down so his head was in front of yours.
âWhat is it?â
âYou almost left without your flower.â Your voice is soft and sleepy and you pluck a sweet pea out of the pot next to your bed. It goes behind his ear again and you smile at him with your eyes closed. âBye Speedy see you tomorrow.â
âSee you tomorrow Ivy.â
The next day Peter and Kurt show up to your room at the same time. Youâre growing more ivy to cover the white walls, freshly inspired by Peterâs nickname for you, when he speeds in at the same time that Kurt poofs his way in. The sounds of the two showing up throw you off guard and the white and purple flowers you were about to bloom pop open as you jump.Â
âYou both need to learn how to knock.âÂ
âWhatâre you doing here?â Peter turns to look at Kurt, his face slightly scrunched up.
âI have plans with Y/n.â
âPlans? You didnât tell me you had plans.â You shrug at him as you put your shoes on.
âYou didnât ask. Besides I just figured youâd end up finding me while I was out.â You can tell by the look on his face that he was trying not to show how let down he was. âWeâre going to a nearby conservatory, if Kurt doesnât mind you tagging along then I donât.â
âI donât mind, Jubilee wanted to tag along too.â With that he poofs away only to come back with Jubilee a minute later.Â
âLetâs go then.â You grab hold of Kurt's hand and Peter begrudgingly grabs onto his shoulder.
Peter watches as you laugh at something your blue friend said. He and Jubilee have stayed back a little while you two walked in front. Jubilee would randomly catch Peter grumbling to himself and decides itâs time to do something about it.
âWhy do I feel like this is a date?â She watches as Peterâs eyes get big and he stops in his tracks.
âLook Jubes youâre a sweet gal but I donât-â
âNot for us Peter, for them.â She gestures over to you and Kurt whoâre crouched down looking at one of the water lillies in the room.
âNo way, she doesnât like him like that.âÂ
âHow do you know? Heâs been in her life longer than you.â Peter glares at the back of Kurt's head as she speaks. âPeter, are you jealous?â Her teasing tone snaps Peter out of it.Â
âWhat? No not at all. Why would you even think that?â
âOh, itâs definitely not all the grumbling or glaring at Kurt youâve been doing. Donât worry though she only likes him as a friend seeing as she only gives him friendship flowers.â
âFriendship flowers?â
âYeah, different flowers symbolize different things. I learned pretty quickly that she doesnât know how to properly show her feelings so she uses what she knows best.â Jubilee smiles at her friend before turning back to Peter. âDoes she not give you flowers?â
âShe does, I didnât know they meant anything.â The four of you walk outside to the gardens where you and Kurt sit down for a little bit while Peter stays talking to Jubilee.Â
âPeter! Come here real quick!â Peterâs next to you in a flash and you smile as you place a crown of daisies on his head. Jubilee and Kurt share a look of acknowledgement with each other over the action. At the end of the day Peter tells you about how he was thinking about moving into the school to which you had told him to do it and that you would help him move his stuff if he wanted.
Over the next few days of hanging out with you you help Peter weigh the pros and cons of moving into the school. And Peter finally decided to do it so here you are knocking on his door to help him pack. His mom opens the door and yells to Peter that thereâs a girl here for him making him run upstairs as fast as possible. He leads you down into the basement where you find boxes filled with clothes and hostess snacks but a corner of the room catches your eye. On a little side table are all of the flowers youâve given each in their own tiny vase. While Peter plays a game of Pong you walk over to it and bring the close to dying flowers back to life.Â
âWhat are you doing?â Peter zips next to you a twinkie in his mouth.
âYou kept them.â Your voice is soft and you spot a book halfway under the couch titled Flowers and Their Meanings. Peter blushes as you pull the book out and busies himself with packing and moving. When you turn around while looking at the book in your hand you find that most of the boxes are gone. âPeter.â He freezes at the sound of his name box in hand. He cringes as he looks at you looking through the book. âWhatâs this?â Thereâs a smile thatâs dangerously close to becoming a smirk on your lips when you look up at him.
âWell you see, the thing is,â He rubs his neck while he tries to find the words. âJubilee told me that you express yourself with flowers.âÂ
âAnd you wanted to know what I thought of you?â Peter just nods his head. âDid you find what you wanted?â
âIâm having a hard time identifying the flowers.â You laugh at his response thinking of him stressing out over which flower was which.
âYouâre an idiot Speedy. Letâs get the rest of your stuff moved and maybe someday Iâll tell you what each flower is.âÂ
As Peter gets his room in order back at the school you go get his welcome present. âItâs a honeysuckleâ you had said when you handed him the potted flower before bidding him good luck with unpacking and heading on your way.
That night Peter knocks on your door waking you up. When you open it to see whatâs going on you donât see anyone and turn around knowing it had to have been Peter. Heâs sitting in front of the table in the middle of your room with all of his flowers on it.
âYou have to tell me what they are. Please Ivy, I gotta know.â You just sigh before closing your door and moving to sit across from him.
âWhite camellia, itâs used to tell people that theyâre adorable. Blue iris, used to show faith and trust and hope. Sweet pea, itâs used to tell people you had a good time with them.â You pause when you get to the daisy crown swallowing the lump in your throat. âDaisies symbolize innocence and hope but can also be used to show a crush.â You blush at the fact that youâve basically just expressed your feelings to him.
âWhat about the honeysuckle?â He skips the other flowers youâve given him the past couple days and puts the pot in front of you.
âHoneysuckle represent-â
âBonds of love, right?â Your eyes meet his and all you can do is nod. âGood.â Next thing you know his lips are on yours but you donât have time to kiss him back before heâs pulling apart. âOh and here, for you Ivy.â He puts a flower in your hand before speeding off and taking his collection of flowers with him. You look at the red camellia in your hands and find a small note attached to it.
âYouâre a flame in my heart ;) -Love Peterâ
