Successful dog #plalk today - that’s if success means pulling another small bag of trash/plastic out of the #waterways and ocean. The #Rowanator and I went dog #plalking here in #tkpk just in the neighborhood and most of what we grabbed was in the street at the curb, which means it travels down the system all the way to end up in the ocean. The #Rowanator tells us how and what we found in this video. #citizenscience #stoptheplasticwave #oceanresilience #resilience #resilientcities #precovery #precoverymindset - - What we saw today was a good example of what travels from where we are as far away as the shores of Scotland but also litters the beaches, sea floor and floating garbage patches in locations near and far. In our clean up a few months ago, we saw many of these same objects and pieces of them broken down on the banks of the islands in the #Anacostia. We need to be smarter about our production amounts and types, purchasing power and the waste and recycling systems, even as we continue clean up. - - The just release report on what’s in the gut of turtles worldwide is staggering. 7 species in the Atlantic, Pacific and Med - all turtles tested had some #plastics, in this case mostly black and blue #plasticbasedfibers, but there was some #microplastics. Every single turtle in the sampling. We can do better. (at Takoma Park, Maryland) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrLOSgXgHBp/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jjmr42odiqbi
