Lesser Sandhill Cranes in Cornfield North of Plainview TX - February 2018 http://michael-massa-micon.tumblr.com We were driving from Caprock Canyons to Plainview, TX for church on a Sunday morning when we saw this huge flock of large birds walking across a harvested cornfield. They started taking off as we approached them and most were in the air before I could get the Jeep stopped and grab the camera. I didn’t know what they were and they were rapidly taking to the air, so I was only able to get a couple of quick images. The first image shows the birds as they start into the air. The second image is a quick, maximum zoom shot of the group on the end which had not yet started into the air. The third image gives a better feel for the size of the flock. Less than a third of the flock is captured in that image. MWM
