Good news! I'll stop moanin and bitchin over the BG3 fighting system now!
Because I activated the ingame-mod system and actually found a mod that automatizes battles. I can toggle on and off all the companions that I want to act on their own and even could nope out from Tav's fight. It's actually very helpful, to watch the party fight, the way they are actually supposed to fight. Maybe one day I'll be able to toggle the automation off again. But that day is not today. I will always keep Tav manually fighting though. And thanks to the fact that my companions now actually do what they are supposed to do, it does not matter that much that I am still fumbling my way through the process. I am happily stuck with fighter class now, because it's easy and rewarding. I can heal myself and I even get a second action here and there. I actually had to start a new game with mods installed so you won't guess what happened (I think you CAN guess, but you'll have to look at her anyway!) I proudly present: Tav Cara Fighter - Charlatan (First I thought I should pick noble but then, she'll always be a Crow who knows best how to negotiate, deceive and persuade.) As always, talking her way out of every mess. And if that won't work, she'll probably start kicking in teeth in. I call that Sophisticated Violence!
I promise, I'll stop now. Thank you all for your encouraging messages and valuable tips. I think, I'm good to go now.
