So a while ago I purchased “Pixel Pets,” a Tamagotchi rip-off.
It was endearing, with nice art for the pets, but had several very bad/”unique” design choices, including the “reset” button being like, right there.
Today I looked online to see other people’s opinion’s on it, and found out that it’s actually a very infamous bootleg product, but in new packaging! Also, I haven’t seen this specific release documented anywhere!
I’m thrilled now actually, because infamous bootlegs are my special interest!
It’s a ROM that’s been circulating as a knockoff tamagotchi for a while, nicknamed the “Bunny Rom.” But somehow it got marketed and officially being sold in a reputable store near me as like, a somewhat official looking, yet off-brand virtual pet product. I never would’ve thought it was a straight-up bootleg being re-marketed.
More info about the “Bunny ROM”
As flawed as it is, I feel the Bunny ROM is becoming my new special interest. There are 168 well-designed pets to choose from. Some even look like familiar characters like Sailor Moon, Yami Yugi, Digimon, and Tamagotchi themselves. They may not evolve, but at least you can count on them being their cute self forever.
The best part is that they never die! Well… Unless you hit that reset button that’s literally right there and very easy to accidentally hit. But virtual pets that die with neglect give me anxiety, and since that can’t happen here, no anxiety! Also you can always get the pet you chose back easily, or use this opportunity to play with one of the other 168 pets…
