It was with shock plastered onto his features that he realized he wasn't dead anymore. The lights in the infirmary felt blinding, made his eyes feel itchy, yet he never closed them on his own volition. It was something he would never admit, but the fear of closing his eyes and returning to the darkness was all too present at that moment.
In one swift movement, he sat up on the bed as greyish hues fought to stay focused on some point--anywhere. Try as he may, his vision was still blurry, the terrors of the trial he never meant to be the protagonist of coming back to him in unwelcome hallucinatory detail. If this is what karma was, it seemed to be paying him back for all the things he had done before at once, and one needn't be a genius to tell from his face that the experience was anything but pleasant.
As if his lungs had forgotten how to function, the raven gasped for air and held a hand to his chest, just as though it would help ease the sharp (if only momentary) pain. He breathed--breathed--and something so mundane had never felt so bittersweet before. A mixture of relief and stress washed over him while, slowly but surely, the teen's heavy breathing gradually became less forced.
In an attempt at pushing the memories to the back of his mind, an equally sour thought messed with his struggling to pull himself together. He didn't want to check his body for scars; not now, not later, because even if they were naught but marks of the past whose meaning he would hopefully overcome in the future, those would still be the atemporal signs of yet another one of his utter and complete failures.
Teeth clencing suddenly, a pitiful excuse of a grunt built at the back of his throat. "Fuck..."

A high-pitched voice, similar to their own, broke their trance.
"Youâre awake!"
They turned their head, noticing two people flying in the airâone in purple with with wings carrying one wearing pinkâeventually landing on the ground. The pink one had a sack in their hands.
"Hey, weâre back!"
Another voice, lower pitched compared to the previous one, came from the other side. One was in brown and the other in blue, walking with a bundle of sticks and a bucket.
The one in purple grabbed the one in pink by the shoulder just as they were about to run to them, stopping the one in pink. Purple said, "Be wary. You know who they are."
Pink looked back at Purple, frowning. They replied, âI know, but, theyâre still someone whoâs super hurt.â
"Yes, howeverâ"
"Hey wise guy, lighten up!" Brown nudged Purple on the shoulder, "Whatâs one tiny guy gonna do to us anyway? Bâsides, werenât you the one to offer to patch âem up?"
Purple stammered, and Blue responded by patting the other on the shoulder. They watched the scene play out, only to be noticed by the four again when they shifted in position. Pink dashed up to them, and then sat down beside them.
"Hello!" Pink said as they tilted their head, "Who are you?"
Put on the spot, they were at a loss for words. What should they tell them? They were Dark Matter? Thatâs what they were, but Purple didnât seem too fond of their kind. They opened their mouth to speak, only to close it again. They looked down and off to the side, fingering one of the bandages on their arm out of nervousness.
Blue took note of this, and placed his hand on Pinkâs shoulder. âHow about introduce yourself first? They donât look comfortable.â
Pink gave an understanding nod. âRight!â Pink turned back to them and smiled, "My nameâs Kirby! This is Coo! Heâs an owl." Kirby pointed to Purple. "This is Rick, a hamster." They moved their finger to Brown. "And Kine! Sunfish." Their finger then finally pointed to Blue.
Kine sat down, turning to them. "Whatâs your name?"
They didnât have a name beyond âDark Matter,â in actuality. Thatâs how it was. No one had their own unique name, besides the rare ones who declared for themselves to have a name. They opened their mouth, though this time they had something to say. "IâŚI donâtâŚ"
Rick cut in, "Yâdonât have a name? Sheesh, thatâs pretty harsh."
Kine shook their head, "Ah, thatâs no good. How about we give you one?"
There was a moment of silence, as all four were thinking of a fitting name for the newest addition to their group. The silence remained unbroken, until Kirby chimed in, "Oh! How about Gooey?" This earned a raised eyebrow from Coo. Kirby then explained, moving their hands around as they talked as if that helped explain their reasoning better. "You know when Kine was washing them in the river, they moved around and their tongue came out of their mouth and it was suuuuuper long? It was so cool and the tongue felt reallyâŚgooey!"
As Coo explained to Kirby why that named seemed to be more insulting than fitting, they tossed the name around in their head. They mouthed the name, and then finally, spoke it.
"GooâŚey. Gooey."
For some reason. It sounded right.
Even with their small voice, it still caught everyoneâs attention. Rick bent down and reached to ruffle Gooeyâs hair, who flinched from the touch. "Cute liâl name for a liâl guy like you," he said.
Kine gave a warm smile. âItâs nice to meet you, Gooey. Weâre about to prepare breakfast. You should eat with us.â
Kirby grabbed Gooeyâs hands, causing a startled yelp to come from them. Kirby grinned wide and exclaimed, "Youâre gonna be A-okay! Weâre super nice people, so weâre gonna make sure youâll be right as rain!"
Gooey looked around. All four of them had a welcoming look on their faces. No hostility, no malice, no violent intentions at all. Just like that, they knew that what Kirby said was true.
So they smiled back, because they were going to be okay.
Travelling to another worlds wasn't exactly something God hated. Oh no no, quite the opposite. It would always be rather pleasant to meet new people, new demons, new angels, even new races. She loved them and they would always pick her interest. Even if she was a thousand years old, there was only too much she had yet to see, too much she had yet to know. Not even God was aware of everything that existed in the universe -- after all, she wasn't the only God that existed. There were many others, just like many other worlds.
Although it hadn't been of her desire, Etihw found herself now in a new place. It wasn't the Gray Garden anymore, and she couldn't quite understand just how she had suddenly appeared there. It was an island, rather beautiful if you ask her, and all around her were many intriguing faces. Most of them looked like humans, but some had distinct features from humans, angels and demons. It was the first time she had seem them!
"I wonder if this is his doing." Whether it really was the Devil's doing, she really appreciated it, one way or another. However, there was a single problem. Etihw, as a God, felt rather... powerless. Almost as if her crystals were nothing but simple, harmless crystals. She was God, an extremely powerful being, and yet... she felt like a human, or maybe a newborn God. Powerless, with no idea how to use her powers. Harmless.Â
Well, maybe they would come back sooner or later? Whatever happened, she wouldn't (and shouldn't) worry too much. It was no good.

There were numerous machines that sheâs never seen beforeâall situated close to each other in the room, and many of these machines were very rectangular in shapeânot that that was a significant detail or anything, she just felt like pointing that out to show the world how observant she was for a ten year old.
Sheâs made many visits to the kitchen because of her fast metabolism, hunting for food that she could reach on her own since life as a short person was unforgiving, cruel, and filled with many bumps on the road. But she never gave up; sheâd persevere and continue to go forward, hoping for the day she would experience her growth spurt. Anyhow, although sheâs been in the kitchen countless times, she had never poked around with any of the equipment in the room besides the refrigerator and some of the chairs or boxes laying around in case she couldnât quite reach something she wanted at her normal height.
Today would be different, she decided, because she was determined to learn how to cook. And sheâd learn what to do and what not to do from experiencing the wonders of cooking firsthand. Slowly, she walks toward the stove and her hand trembles as it reaches for the electric starter. She holds her breathe and tries to steady her hand as she turns the starter, and thenâŚ
âKYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! FIREEEEEEEEEEEE!! THEREâS A FIRE!!!â
In terror, Ruki runs away from the stove and clings onto a man who had probably heard her melodramatic screaming about turning on a stove for the first time.Â
