Part 22

Ryan McQuaid: pov nerve damage how serious is it?

Dr Rosen: pov right now it's too early to tell, it could be temporary or permanent. She will definitely need physical therapy for it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I grab my phone and call my brother since i’m already in the hallway and let him know the results of Annie's scans and X-ray.

Jeff McQuaid: pov so does that mean you are coming.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I guess Joan convinced me.

Jeff McQuaid: pov hey I meant to ask before but didn't want to intrude, you have not mentioned Annie's family once. Does she not have any or is she no contact with them because if I was in the hospital I would want my family to know.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I actually don't know if she has any, Annie has never mentioned them to me nor has Joan and she would know that info. I can ask her right now actually. I quietly sneak back into Annie's room to talk to Joan, hey can we head into the hallway I don't want to wake her up. I can see Annie through the door while I talk with Joan.

Joan: pov is everything okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov her head scan looked good, her arm one showed possible nerve damage and her X-ray looked good.

Joan: pov Nerve damage do they know if it's temporary or permanent.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no, that's not why I want to talk to you. Do you know if Annie has any family, she hasn't mentioned any to me the whole time we have known each other. and my brother said if he was in the hospital he would want them to be called and it got me thinking about if she had a family and if she does why weren't they notified that she was in the ER.

Joan: pov it's complicated, as you know Annie faked her own death to catch a bad man with the help of Calder and eyal and then went dark for a bit. I left it up to Annie if she wanted her sister to know she was alive and Annie kept saying it was safer for her sister not to know. Auggie was the one who notified her of Annie's death.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that's rough. But shouldn't she have a right to know her sister is alive.

Joan: pov yes but that's Annie's choice.

Ryan McQuaid: pov with her health being bad I think she should tell her sister she is alive.

Joan: pov yes, maybe you can convince her. I think her sister should know she is alive.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I head back into Annie's room with Joan before I have to leave. I hear the door slowly open, it's Dr carpenter the nurse must have told him Annie was asleep.

Dr Carpenter: pov Annie is definitely asleep, In a low voice i mention that i just wanted to check on Annie, see how she's doing. Her vitals look much better, tomorrow she has an echocardiogram scheduled.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I brush Annie's hair out of her face with my hand and kiss her on the forehead. I tell Joan to call or text me if anything happens. I make it to the restaurant in good time and find the booth my brother is sitting in.

Jeff McQuaid: pov hey, you made it how's Annie?

Ryan McQuaid: pov Pretty much the same, she was asleep when I left. I didn't want to wake her up.

Jeff McQuaid: pov the waiter asks us if we would like to order something to drink while we look at the menu. Yes, a beer.

Ryan McQuaid: pov soda is fine for me. I don't want to drink anything because I have to go back to the hospital after this to be with Annie.

Jeff McQuaid: pov that makes sense. Our waiter's name is Charles, the menu has a lot of interesting food on it. Ryan has been here before, he is the one who picked out the place. Hey Charles do you happen to have non-alcoholic beer?

Charles the waiter: pov yes I do, would you like that instead of the alcoholic kind.

Jeff McQuaid: pov yes, can I also get one for my brother.

Ryan McQuaid: pov didn't even think of that as an option

Jeff McQuaid: pov now we both can have a beer and not worry.

Ryan McQuaid: pov how's the family been.

Jeff McQuaid: pov great, can you believe it leighanne is having another baby.

Ryan McQuaid: pov when she told me I was so happy for her, I talked with her on the phone recently. I wish I could spend more time with you guys but with work and Annie's health it's hard to find time.

Jeff McQuaid: pov Remember that time we went camping as kids and a bee climbed into your sleeping bag.

Ryan McQuaid: pov yep and I killed it with my bare hands and leighanne fell into the lake trying to stand up in the canoe because a bug was crawling up her leg.

Jeff McQuaid: pov I miss camping, we should definitely get together and go camping again.

Ryan McQuaid: pov i’v been wanting to go, I know Annie would love It but with her health that might not be a good idea.

Jeff McQuaid: pov wouldn't hurt to ask her Dr's about it. Leighanne’s been talking about taking the kids camping for a while, but now that she is pregnant it would have to be after the baby is born and it's it's little older. Have you ever thought about having kids?

Ryan McQuaid: pov Kelly wanted kids and I didn't then she got cancer and that was off the table, I haven't thought about it since then.

Jeff McQuaid: pov have you talked with Annie about it to see if she wants kids.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I haven't brought it up because I don't know if she can have any.

Jeff McQuaid: pov sorry I didn't think about that. Just for peace of mind, is there any way to find out if you or Annie can or can't have kids, because there are probably some good obgyn doctors nearby. I just don't want you to miss out on having kids if it's an option. you can probably ask leighanne for a good recommendation.

Part 21

Annie walker: pov y rm eels unny.

Ryan McQuaid: pov what type of funny?

Annie walker: pov ike t's ingling.

Dr Rosen: pov annie can you move your fingers for me, good girl. I don't like how they are moving. She probably injured a nerve. I think I'm going to call down and see if the scan room is open as a precaution, she has one scheduled for tomorrow anyway. I will be back in a few minutes.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Looks like the scan room is open, Joan says she will stay here in the room, she wants to call Arthur anyway to keep him updated. An orderly is here to move Annie's gurney to the scan room, I follow beside the gurney/bed holding her hand.

Joan: pov I pick up the phone and call Arthur to let him know what happened. Hey Arthur.

Arthur: pov are you calling because you miss Mack already.

Joan: pov no, Annie fell and pulled her IV out.

Arthur: pov is she okay.

Joan: pov not sure she is getting scans as a precaution right now, she said her arm felt funny might be some minor nerve damage. Ryan came out to the parking lot to help me carry some stuff up while Annie was still asleep and she woke up and tried to go to the bathroom by herself.

Arthur: pov why didn't she ask the nurses for help she is not allowed up on her own.

Joan: pov I don't know you know Annie she is stubborn, after being shot by Lena and having major surgery she went after her before she was 100 percent. I realized then she wasn't asking me if she could go after Lena, Annie was telling me she was going after her. Which was very dangerous on her part.

Arthur: pov i figured she wasn't 100 percent when you told me she went after Lena. I can't believe she was that reckless.

Joan: pov Maybe if Annie hadn't rushed her recovery she wouldn't be in this spot.

Arthur: pov that probably didn't help but Lena shooting her caused all of this.

Joan: pov I know you're right, it's wrong to suggest Annie did anything to cause this Lena did. I'm glad she is dead.

Arthur: pov i’m going to have to let you go Mack just pooped his diaper and I think it's up his back.

Joan: pov you better take care of that. I will update you when I have more info.

Ryan McQuaid: pov while I wait outside the scan room I call my brother to let him know what is going on. Hey Jeff just wanted to let you know I might be running a little late. Annie fell getting up to go to the bathroom while I was out of the room for a second helping Joan carry a few things up to the room. I thought Annie was sleeping

Jeff McQuaid: pov is she okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she pulled her IV out during the fall. At the moment she is getting some scans done to make sure everything is okay.

Jeff McQuaid: pov if you can't make it, it's okay we can reschedule for tomorrow or I can stop by the hospital and bring some food.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will update you in a bit if I can make it or not. After a bit Dr Rosen reappears with Annie, he says an orthopedic Dr is meeting us in the X-ray room, he called and it's available right now. Annie can barely keep her eyes open. i can tell she is fighting to stay awake, sweetheart it's okay to sleep if you need to. She finally gave in to the pain meds and fell asleep.

Dr Joshua: pov I'm waiting for Dr Rosen in the x-ray room. He has a patient that needs her arm X-rayed. He explains everything to me including her medical history and cardiac history.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I'm allowed in the room with Annie since she is asleep Dr Joshua is x-raying her arm differently. It should only take a few minutes, then we can head back to her room.

Dr Joshua: pov I'm not seeing anything on the x-ray only a big bruise, the area should be iced. The orderly is taking Annie back to her room.

Joan: pov After a bit the door to Annie's room opens, it's an orderly pushing her gurney/Bed back into place.

Ryan McQuaid: pov hey Joan, annie is all finished with her scans they even managed to take an x-ray of her arm. Dr Rosen should have the neurological/arm scan results soon, the orthopedic Dr looked at Annie's x-ray and didn't see any broken bones. Which is good news.

Joan: pov I think we should drink our smoothies. Annies should be okay till she wakes up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov It's so hard seeing her like this. I have to call my brother in a bit and update him after Dr Rosen speaks to us. Nurse Judy left the room after checking Annie's vitals to get some ice packs for her.

Nurse Judy: pov I got 2 ice packs for Annie if we wrap them they should be fine, the first one is for her arm and the other for her upper arm. All of Annie's monitors are on her left side except her IV which is now on her right side. 10 minutes is enough time for the ice packs after that they can be removed.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will set a timer then that way I will know when to take the ice packs off. Any update on the case.

Joan: pov not much, still haven't figured out why the guy targeted her or why he was killed and who killed him. The timer is going off which means it's time to remove the ice packs. I can't believe Annie slept through that. I know you are worried about Annie but you should really hang out with your brother.

Part 20

Ryan McQuaid: pov Joan just texted me that she is at the hospital, and has smoothie and other stuff to bring up. Since Annie is still sleeping I head downstairs to help Joan carry everything up. I'm carefully carrying the tray with the smoothies in my right hand.

Annie walker: pov as soon as my eyes open I notice Ryan isn't in the room. I wonder where he went, as I'm laying in bed I notice that I have to pee. I know I'm supposed to push the button for help but I'm tired of needing someone's help. I can probably make it to the bathroom by myself, I don't need anyone's help. As I stand up I notice my legs are shaky and unstable, I push the IV pole/stand forward that has all my stuff on it with my left hand and take a few steps forward that is when i realize my legs are giving out and I'm about to hit the floor on instinct I try to grab onto the pole with my right hand also to steady myself better but wind up pulling on my IV very painfully as I fall over knocking the IV pole with the stuff on it over.

Ryan McQuaid: pov On the other side of Annie's door I can hear a loud thump. I quickly push the door open and notice Annie on the floor, her iv pole is knocked over. I put the drinks on the table while Joan hits the nurses button, I tell her to go to the nurses station and ask for her Dr's. I rush over to Annie to make sure she is okay. Let's hope she didn't have an episode and fall over. I see some blood on the floor and her left arm. She must have pulled out her IV as she fell over. She definitely looks startled. I ask her if she is okay. Annie says ot re. Did you have an episode, She says no i ave o ee. Sounds like she has to pee. you know you're not supposed to get out of bed without help

Annie walker: pov on't eed elp.

Ryan McQuaid: pov you definitely do need help, you heard what the Dr said you're not supposed to get up by yourself. I'm afraid to touch her in case she is injured. Nurse Judy and Annie's Dr's run in the room asking if everything is okay.

Joan: pov No, McQuaid was out of the room for a few minutes while Annie slept and she got up and tried to go to the bathroom by herself when she isn't allowed to do it alone.

Nurse Judy: pov I can tell she needs a new IV. Our main priority is making sure she isn't injured and the bleeding from her pulled out IV is stopped. I’m going to keep putting pressure on the spot while Dr Carpenter checks her out.

Dr Carpenter: pov first things first lets fix her nasal oxygen tube then get her on the bed so we have space to work, Dr Rosen can you carefully help me lift Annie on to the bed. We need to make sure none of her other wires got pulled out. I check her heart rate which is a little elevated, I will give her some meds once the new IV is in. I readjust her wires.

Dr Rosen: pov i’m just going to check and make sure Annie didn't make her concussion worse with the fall. Everything looks okay, but I'm going to keep an eye on her closely. She might have a headache later due to the fall agitating her concussion. She has scans tomorrow, but i might move her scan up to tonight

Dr Carpenter: pov her arm should stop bleeding soon, Annie can you tell me if anywhere else hurts. If it's easier you can point with your right hand. Looks like she is pointing to her left upper arm. It definitely looks like it is starting to bruise. It might need to be X-rayed. Nurse Judy let's check and make sure her accidentally pulling out the IV didn't cause any damage to her arm.

Nurse Judy: pov I have Ryan McQuaid put pressure on the spot that is bleeding while I put in a new IV. I’m going to have to use the back of Annie's right hand for the new IV spot. We already used her right arm when she first came in, after a few days we switched to her left arm. I know she is going to hate it. Once the IV is in I tape it good, then i have Dr Rosen help me by holding her right hand flat so I can put the arm board/TLC splint we use on children and adults who pull out their IVs on there hand I then wrap it up and put tape on it so it can't be pulled out, it also makes it hard for your hand to move.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie is going to hate where the new IV is placed. Her left arm is still bleeding.

Annie walker: pov I don't like where the new IV is placed and my left arm is killing me plus I'm so upset that I fell.

Nurse Judy: pov Let's take a look at her left arm, that looks awful. It's already turning black and blue with some purple in it. Let's clean the area and see how bad it is, then we can wrap it and put some ice on it. It's pretty swollen already. The ice should help with the swelling.

Dr Rosen: pov since I don't think the fall caused her concussion to worsen I will clear her to have some pain meds because her arm is going to be killing her, they might make her sleepy.

Part 19

Jeff McQuaid: pov I'm on my lunch break eating and wanted to know if you wanted to hang out later today it's the last day of my business trip but I might be able to extend the trip a few days if you want.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I would love to hang out later. It's been hard with Annie in the hospital. I don't want to leave her side because she needs so much help at the moment. That's up to you if you want to extend the trip.

Jeff McQuaid: pov how about dinner tonight that way we can catch up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that sounds good I will have to see how Annie feels first, it shouldn't be too hard to get someone to visit with her while I'm gone I can probably ask Joan she would probably love to have a girls night with Annie. After hanging up with my brother, I call Joan on the phone. Hey, are you free tonight. My brother wants to hang out.

Joan: pov and you don't want to leave Annie alone, I understand and yes I'm free Arthur can spend time with Mack.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Auggie is here right now because I had a dentist appointment.

Joan: pov Arthur mentioned something about it this morning as he was leaving the house.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie could use some girl time, she got her hair washed this morning since her stitches are out and a sponge bath.

Joan: pov can you ask the Dr's if she can have her nails painted and use a face mask.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no problem. I'm back in her room with my food, Annie is asleep. Hey Auggie, I just wanted to let you know Joan is coming by later to hang out with Annie and have some girl time. My brother wants to hang out with me and I don't want to leave her alone.

Auggie: pov you could have asked me I would have stayed.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I know Auggie but there might be other days when I need you. Plus you have been here most of the morning and I didn't want you to think you had to stay longer. Why don't you take Tasha out to dinner while you are here.

Auggie: pov after chatting with Ryan for a bit I decide to head out early since Annie is asleep.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I get up from my chair and grab my laptop that's in my bag so i can catch up on some emails. Once I'm done with that I turn the TV on and make sure the volume is low, while channel changing I land on some survival show that looks interesting. I would love to take Annie camping in a tent or cabin but with her health it's a big risk and I'm not sure if I want to take that risk because if something happens to her It might take a while for help to get to her.

Joan: pov McQuaid said he talked with Annie's Dr and it's fine for me to paint her nails and put a face mask on. As I'm leaving my office I stop by Calder's to let him know I'm leaving a little bit early to visit Annie, McQuaid has plans with his brother tonight.

Calder: pov can you let annie know me and everyone in the cia are trying to figure out who orchestrated this and why she was targeted.

Joan: pov will do.

Calder: pov do they know when she will be released from the hospital.

Joan: pov no idea, she is still on oxygen but doing better her speech is still slurred. She might need speech therapy on top of physical therapy if it doesn't improve.

Calder: pov by the way Eric Barber has been asking how Annie is if you have a few minutes can you update him.

Joan: pov no problem, I can do it right now if he is in his cubicle.

Calder: pov yes he is.

Joan: pov great i will stop by on my way out.

Eric Barber: pov hey Joan, everything okay.

Joan: pov yeah Calder said you were asking about Annie so I came to update you on my way out.

Eric Barber: pov thanks.

Joan: pov she is doing better her concussion is improving she is still on oxygen though, her speech is still slurred and hard to understand at the moment the weird eye thing that happened most likely was a side effect of the medication they gave her the tests ruled out seizures and strokes which is awesome. She will need physical therapy and possibly speech therapy when she gets released and before you ask I have no idea when that will be.

Eric Barber: pov I'm glad she is doing a little better, she really scared me I thought she wasn't going to make it.

Part 18

Ryan McQuaid: pov it's a heart condition, she was shot a few years ago. Twice in the chest, but sometime last year she started developing weird symptoms and a doctor diagnosed her with Myocarditis, she may need another surgery for a valve repair at some point.

Dr Scott: pov wow that must be hard for her I can definitely get her an appointment, what day works best for her.

Ryan McQuaid: pov actually she is in the hospital at the moment. I was on a work trip and someone who hasn’t been caught yet tasered her in the parking lot of McQuaid security. 2 of my employees had to use the paddles on her 3 times.

Dr Scott: pov that's awful I hope she is okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she's doing better it's been a week she has a moderate concussion and they are keeping a close eye on her heart, she is having some issues due to a muscle injury so her speech is a little slurred and she is still on oxygen temporarily. They removed the stitches from the back of her head this morning.

Dr Scott: pov you can call when she gets out of the hospital to make an appointment. I can't wait to meet her, she sounds like a strong woman.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will have her Dr send over all of her medical records.

Dr Scott: pov that would be great. See you soon.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I text Auggie in the car before I leave the dentist office that I'm making a quick stop before heading back to the hospital. Arthur, Joan and Calder all called me while I was in the dentist office. It must be important. I pick up the phone and call Joan back first, hey what's up did you get any closer to finding the guy.

Joan Campbell: pov Maybe, a body has been found in an abandoned warehouse shot in the head. Might be related to what happened to Annie, our guys are making sure the body is identified.

Ryan McQuaid: pov do I need to get back to the hospital I was going to run an errand before I went back but if the guy that tasered Annie is dead then someone killed him, but why.

Joan Campbell: pov no idea.

Ryan McQuaid: pov also why would someone use a taser on Annie if they wanted her dead, why not use a gun or something else, plus only a few people know about her heart condition so that means he probably didn't know about it and why pick the parking lot of McQuaid security.

Joan Campbell: pov Maybe he used the taser because he wanted to kidnap her but it went south with her having a heart condition and he freaked out probably called his boss or someone else and that is how he ended up as a dead body. This is just a theory still waiting for an ID on the body.

Auggie Anderson: pov it's hard with me not being able to see, I can hear the sound of Annie's monitors in the room the nurse explained to me where everything is. I can hear the door opening in Annie's room.

Nurse Judy: pov Hi Auggie I'm here to check Annie's vitals and see if she wants to eat anything for lunch. How's the headache Annie?

Annie walker: pov etter oesn't urt s uch.

Auggie Anderson: pov how are vitals doing.

Nurse Judy: pov better, they are improving.

Auggie Anderson: pov do you know when she can lose the oxygen.

Nurse Judy: pov that depends on how she is doing oxygen wise and when the DR says it can be removed. Annie what type of food do you want, because you can have more of that soup.

Annie walker: pov ank ou he oup ounds mazing.

Auggie Anderson: pov It's still hard to understand her when she talks. The nurse is back with her soup. Do you need help eating the soup or can you do it by yourself? I know I might not be much help but I thought I would ask anyway.

Annie walker: pov he can't see so I can't write down what i’m saying and it's hard to understand me when I talk. I text him how nice of you, I'm good actually getting better at feeding myself. The nurse asks Auggie if he wants something to eat because she can get him something, it's no problem.

Auggie Anderson: pov Sure that would be nice.

Nurse Judy: pov is a sandwich okay.

Auggie Anderson: pov yeah that's fine.

Annie walker: pov I ave o ee

Auggie Anderson: pov I can't understand what she is saying.

Nurse Judy: pov i think she has to pee, here Annie let me help you up, she is not stable on her feet so someone has to help her.

Auggie Anderson: pov can I help walk her to the bathroom.

Nurse Judy: pov sure, I will direct you where to go.

Annie walker: pov nurse Judy helps me up while Auggie is holding onto me so I don't fall over she is telling him which direction to go towards the bathroom.

Nurse Judy: pov once she is in the bathroom I tell Auggie to sit down. I will shout if she needs help getting back to the bed. I want him to feel included. I know it's hard for him not being able to see.

Auggie Anderson: pov I get up and help the nurse get Annie back to bed.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I got back to the hospital as fast I could. In Annie's room her and Auggie are both eating. Hey how's it going, have her vitals been good while I was gone.

Auggie Anderson: pov yes they were fine. Why don't you go to the cafeteria while I'm still here in Annie's room sitting with her.

Part 17

Annie: pov i'm so excited since I can't stand it.

Dr Rosen: pov annie i need you to look straight at me just like that good girl. Everything looks great, her eyes look normal, no weird movements. So far I don't see anything on the eeg monitor but I will look at the results more closely. Nurse Judy the eeg monitor can be removed her hair and scalp are going to be very sticky.

Annie: pov it's so uncomfortable having the eeg thing removed i can feel the nurse pulling the sticky things off me and it hurts. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov can she shower to wash it out.

Dr Rosen: pov she is still on oxygen and needs to be monitored so she can't shower yet, but since her stitches can come out today I will allow her hair to be washed. 

Annie: pov really, that is so exciting it's better than nothing and I feel so gross as it is. 

Dr Rosen: pov While i’m here I will remove your stitches then head to my office to take a closer look at your eeg results. 

Annie: pov Dr Rosen says this might hurt, I can feel a weird tugging sensation as the Dr pulls out my stitches one by one. 

Dr Simone: pov I would like to put Annie on a different medication for her temporary muscles issue. Me and her Dr's discussed it already and they both said it was fine to try this different medication. 

Annie: pov Dr Simone tells us the possible side effects for the medication. 

Dr Carpenter: pov how are we doing this morning. 

Annie: pov okay I get to wash my hair later. 

Dr Carpenter: pov  you must be so happy, i need to listen to your chest after I give you your meds. Your chest sounds good, no signs of pneumonia which is good. 

Nurse Judy: pov what would you like for breakfast, after that we can wash your hair. 

Annie: pov i write on the white board oatmeal sounds nice. Ryan mentions Arthur is dropping off food for him on the way to work since Ryan has a dentist appointment later. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov thank you so much for the food Arthur it saves me so much time since I have a dentist appointment in a bit. The bagel and coffee taste so good. 

Arthur Campbell: pov no problem the hospital is on the way to work and Annie is like a daughter to me. I better get going.

Nurse Judy: pov are you ready to wash your hair, I think we are going to use the sink to wash her hair it will make it easier for us, Ryan can you put the shower chair in front of the bathroom sink while I get some stuff ready. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov sure, once everything is set up I help Annie while nurse Judy grabs her wires. I help her sit on the chair and make sure she is comfortable.

Nurse Judy: pov Annie can you lean your head back, that's good. I squirt some shampoo in her hair and rub it in until the stickiness of the eeg things are gone.

Annie: pov it feels so good to have my hair be washed.

Nurse Judy: pov  I then wash the shampoo out and repeat the process with the conditioner.  

Annie: pov Nurse Judy squeezes my hair out and drys it with a big fluffy towel. I notice my pajamas on the lid to the toilet seat. Ryan says it's to change into, he carefully takes my shirt off so it doesn't bother the wires. 

Nurse Judy: pov I grab a wash cloth to clean her body the best I can before putting her shirt back on Ryan is washing her legs with a wash cloth, once that is done her pajama pants are put on. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov annie is now back in bed, Auggie should be here any minute. As soon as he gets here I'm heading out. Hey thanks for sitting with her.

Auggie: pov no problem. Me and Annie can chat while you are gone. 

Annie walker: pov so what do you want to talk about.

Auggie: pov do you know when you can get out of here.

Annie walker: pov no idea my Dr's haven't said yet which is frustrating because I just want to get out of here.

Auggie: pov you do understand that you almost died, so what if you have to stay a little longer here you are so lucky after what happened to you. This could have ended so badly. 

Annie walker: pov my head is starting to pound.

Auggie: pov you okay you got quite all of a sudden.

Annie walker: pov ead urts.

Auggie: pov i’m using my hands to feel around on the wall for the button the nurse told me about.

Nurse Judy: pov hello Auggie and Annie what seems to be the problem.

Annie walker: pov y ead urts.

Nurse Judy: pov it sounds like your head is bothering you, I can get you something for that.

Annie walker: pov on't ant o eep.

Nurse Judy: pov I understand I can give you a lower dose of pain meds to help with your headache.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I make it to my dentist appointment on time. It's only a cleaning so it shouldn't be too long. I want to talk to my dentist about possibly making an appointment for Annie. After my dental cleaning the dentist walks in the room to look at my teeth. Dr Scott there is actually something I wanted to talk to you about. My fiance Annie Walker has myocarditis and she told me the other day she  hasn't had a dental cleaning in a while and I was wondering if I can get an appointment for her. It's okay if you can't. I know she  might need to see a dental specialist.

Part 16

Leighanne: pov what do you mean leave her alone, can't she come with you. I thought she worked at McQuaid security with you.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she does and at the moment she is in the hospital.

Leighanne: pov oh my is everything okay, what happened if you don't mind me asking.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I don't have all the info but some guy tasered her in the parking lot of McQuaid security, it was bad I was on a business trip and flew home immediately. Arthur, one of my employees and a father figure to Annie found her on the ground as he was pulling into the parking lot. He started cpr on her and had to use the paddles 3 times to get her back. She has prior cardiac history and Myocarditis so they are keeping a close eye on her. She also has a moderate concussion which is doing better.

Leighanne: pov that sounds awful, by the way what is Myocarditis?

Ryan McQuaid: pov it's a heart condition.

Leighanne: pov the way you said it made it seem like she had a heart condition and something else wrong.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that's because she had cardiac issues before the Myocarditis, a few years ago before i met her, annie and her boyfriend at the time were in the kitchen making dinner and talking about taking a trip when her boss snuck into the house and shot the both of them, her then boyfriend died in the kitchen and she was in critical condition with 2 bullet wounds in her chest, she had emergency heart surgery to repair the damage and was in a coma for a bit afterwards her boss then dressed as a Dr snuck into Annie's room and tried to suffocate her thankfully someone noticed and while everyone was focused on helping Annie she escaped. Her boss was later killed while falling to surrender.

Leighanne: pov I can't believe that happened to her that is so insane. I hope she feels better soon.

Ryan McQuaid: pov thanks, I just don't know when she is getting out and if she will be cleared to fly. Then we have physical therapy, speech therapy because her words are a little slurred from the tasering then all these follow up appointments and test they want to run on her, because they are concerned about her valve damage from her Myocarditis

Leighanne: pov she has valve damage, that doesn't sound like fun.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it isn't.

Leighanne: pov I have to go one of the kids is calling for me, talk to you later.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I head back into the room and decide to check my emails while I wait for Joan, nurse Bonnie is carefully checking Annie's vitals so she doesn't wake her up. The door opens to reveal Joan with baby Mack who she picked up from the sitter.

Joan Campbell: pov hey Ryan how's Annie doing.

Ryan McQuaid: pov okay, how did you get Mack here babies aren't allowed on this

ward.

Joan Campbell: pov I have my ways plus I mentioned how it would help her feel better.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it's been a few minutes since Joan arrived and it looks like Annie is waking back up from her nap.

Annie: pov an I ave o ee.

Ryan McQuaid: pov you know it's hard to understand you and you should write down what you want to say. she writes i have to pee, okay let me help you up.

Joan Campbell: pov is everything okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov yes Annie just has to pee, let me hit the button so nurse Bonnie can help us.

Joan Campbell: pov once Annie is back in bed I place Mack next to her which makes her so happy. I just hope he doesn't accidentally pull one of her cords. I remind her to watch his hands. We chat for a bit about the case and how we are getting nowhere so far. I’ve only had to tell Mack once not to play with the cords, he is definitely getting sleepy. Annie's eyes are clearly still moving weird, Ryan says it's actually getting better her eyes are moving less which the Dr said is a good thing and so far the eeg hasn't picked up any seizure activity which is a good thing. Look at that they are both asleep snuggling. I think I should go. I carefully pick Mack up from the bed and carry him out to the car so we can go home.

Ryan McQuaid: pov since Annie is already asleep i decided to get in my pajamas and get comfortable. My brother Jeff left me a text asking if everything is okay. I decide to head into the hallway and call him letting him know everything is okay. He tells me how his day was hanging out with the guy from his meeting. Glad you had a great time. Bye, I will call you tomorrow. I wake to sunlight pouring into the room, it looks like Annie slept through the night. Nurse Judy is filling me in on her vitals which look good. I quickly shower while she is still sleeping. All 3 Dr's should be in the room soon to go over some things.

Nurse Judy: pov it looks like Annie is waking up. She is trying to rub the sleep from her eyes. Do you have to go to the bathroom? It sounds like she says yes.

Annie: pov Ryan helps me out of bed while Nurse Judy holds my wires out of the way, the walk to the bathroom is short thankfully my legs cooperate. While I'm peeing, the nurse gets my toiletries so I can brush my teeth. Ryan is making sure I don't fall over while I put tooth paste on my tooth brush.

Nurse Judy: pov me and Ryan help Annie back to bed.

Part 14

Ryan McQuaid: pov we are now back in Annie's room, Dr carpenter okayed the medication. Dr Simone is going over the possible side effects with us. Annie looks tired, today definitely wore her out, her eyes are barely open. If you are tired you can go to sleep. Once she is asleep I head to the bathroom to pee. I decide to quickly jump in the shower while she sleeps. I walk over to my bag and grab my toiletries and a change of clothes. I shower as quickly as I can in case Annie wakes up. I turn off the water and step out of the shower grabbing a towel to dry off with before getting in my clothes. Sitting next to her bed in a hard chair I hold her hand while I reply back to some texts and emails. I update Joan, Calder, Auggie and Arthur about Annie's condition. I notice Annie is starting to move in the bed she must be waking up. Hey sleepy head, did you sleep well? 

Annie: pov  i slur something woke me up, something wrong.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it sounds like she said something woke her up I wonder what it was could it have been the shower, did she just say something wrong. That is when I notice her eyes are moving weirdly from side to side almost like they are twitching. I quickly get up and hit the button for the nurse. Annie is definitely starting to freak out, hey it's okay the nurse is almost here. 

Nurse Judy: pov what can I help you with. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov something is wrong Annie's eyes are moving weirdly from side to side almost like they are twitching. Nurse Judy hits the button so another nurse can come in. 

Nurse Judy: pov can you get her Dr's. Dr Carpenter, Dr Rosen and Dr Simone 

Dr carpenter: pov what seems to be the problem.

Nurse Judy: pov Annie's eyes are moving weirdly from side to side almost like they are twitching and she is freaking out which is making her heart rate elevated.

Dr Rosen: pov okay, lets take her for emergency scans to make sure nothing serious is going on. Some people get this with a bad concussion but it's been a few days and hers is getting better. It could also be seizure activity or something else. Has she eaten or drank anything recently? 

Ryan McQuaid: pov no, she just woke up from a nap. Dr. Rosen, will she need meds for this. 

Dr Rosen: pov that depends on the cause. 

Dr carpenter: pov let's give her some heart meds to lower her heart rate since it's up because she is freaking out. When was the last time she got meds besides the muscle ones.

Nurse Judy: pov before her nap and it was only the meds Dr Simone  prescribed.

Dr Rosen: pov I want to take her for emergency head scans. It could be a reaction to the meds or something else. 

Dr Simone: pov I went over the possible side effects with her. The eye thing wasn't one of them.

Dr Rosen: pov it's not your fault sometimes people have different side effects. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov everything is happening so quickly it is a rush of activity as they push her gurney towards the scan room, I'm allowed to walk with the gurney that Annie is on, I'm holding her hand. Hey everything is going to be okay no need to panic. We are now at the scan room, I kiss Annie on the forehead before sitting down to wait for the scan to be over. 

Annie: pov everything is happening so fast, i’m suddenly transferred on to the bed of the scan machine.

Nurse Judy: pov Annie you have to stay still for the test. Let's hope everything turns out okay for her.

Annie: pov It's so loudly and claustrophobic it feels like the walls are closing in on me. I’m not even claustrophobic so I don't know why this is bothering me. 

Nurse Judy: pov you have to calm down Annie you can't freak out. 

Dr Rosen: pov i’m sitting in the booth with the technician doing the scan so far I see nothing concerning only her concussion which is looking good. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov I decide to call Joan and let her know what is going on, I know she will tell Arthur and Calder. 

Joan Campbell: pov hey Ryan what's up, is everything okay with Annie.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no that's why I'm calling you. Annie is being taken for emergency scans as we speak Dr Simone gave Annie meds earlier and her eyes are doing some weird movements and they want to make sure it's not seizure activity or a side-effect of the medication. 

Joan Campbell: pov I will let Arthur and Calder know.

Ryan McQuaid: pov thanks, I call Auggie on the phone to let him know what is going on. He  said he will come right down, he should be at the hospital soon. I text my brother Jeff since he is out. The gurney with Annie on it is making its way out of the scan room, Dr Rosen says he and the technician didn't see anything concerning on the screen, but he will look at the scans closer to make sure he didn't miss anything but he would like to do an eeg on annie to 100 percent rule out seizure activity. 

Dr Rosen: pov once she is in the room it shouldn't take too long to hook her up to the eeg monitor, she will be monitored till morning to get an accurate reading. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov the walk back to Annie's room isn't too long, nurse Judy and Dr Rosen are hooking her up to the monitors. She looks upset, and over it all. Is everything okay Annie?
