i draw one real ref per year and the rest are just a fullbody with like no text so i may not be the most qualified dog here XD regardless!!

i break the page down into boxes to make sure i focus on the more important stuff, and i like to focus on the details i want ppl to draw and put less effort in the rest so i dont burn myself out making gourmet character refs X3 hence why the clothed smiley is normal sized and then the body ref is just a colored scribble basically, also dont be afraid of reference pics!! i hate choosing poses so i just look on pinterest XD you dont gotta show ur oc from every angle and in every fit, i think one artist who always makes a good ref is bomberjacket on toyhouse if you wanna know my inspo :3

this is rhe sketch for smileys ref, u can see clearer i divided the page (i was seeing it as one big box on the left and then two on the right, one for text wnd other for grouped body refs) but in the end i decided to only do the MOST important details, cuz its better to do it imperfectly than to not do it until it can be “perfect”

i think my refs are a little boring/without-substance tbh so again look at bomberjacket !!! but heres ones i made that i liked anyways :3
