i decided to make the mc/blair one of the vault doctors bc i think it’d make sense for them to be interested in getting the P.I.E. device since they’d 1. understand the real danger of being in a vault without a P.I.E. device in the first place; 2. how the radiation would spread throughout the vault; and because of that 3. they’d probably be one of the first dwellers to go against sakura. like THEY are the ones who can help ezra but they don't have the means/aren't being allowed to. but at the end of the day i guess the mc can be anything since they're the mc lol. also in blair’s case they grow up to be a therapist so i thought it’d be fun to do that. and they're a NERD.

their traits are good natured because, yes that’s the mc. and i didn’t think any other traits fit the mc, so small frame is specific to blair. 25% extra limb injury. chronically ill coded. tagged skills: science and medicine, because they're a doctor + knowledgeable about radiation. speech, since the mc is a diplomat at heart.

wessss!!! he's a pip-boy programmer for a couple of reasons: first, it’s a callback to shs/hss and whatever he was Doing with stolen cellphones back then (hacking/modding them and then selling them). second, it makes him knowledgeable enough to hack the overseers’s computer to get in contact with another vault + hack/modify payton’s pipboy so they can communicate with her once they’re in the wasteland.

his traits are hoarder and skilled. i didn’t think any of the traits matched him very much but i started with the gimmick so now it’s my burden to bear. anyway hoarder because he hoards secrets [laugh track]. skilled… just makes sense right. 5+ buff in every skill. idk seems like a wes thing. his tagged skills: lockpick and sneak. self explanatory. and barter because it’s the ‘bribing’ alternative to speech (wiki’s words. i thought it was fitting).

i didn't want to give the dwellers traits and/or skills related to combat because they're, well, vault dwellers. they don't need that in the vault. most of them, anyway. i also decided almost all of them are going to have low endurance since it raises the stakes and bc they've been locked in a vault for 200 years. ohh. the traits/skills are lifted from new vegas. the vault jobs are from fallout 3.

sakura got to be the overseer after she was chosen by the vault’s mainframe computer. she was the first one to be chosen, so she considers herself the “main” one of the bunch. such thing does not exist, but the fact she thought it did says something about her and means the experiment is working just fine. before being an overseer, though, she was the vault’s loyalty inspector. i went back and forth between this and making her a shift supervisor but i think making her the person who literally inspects if you are being “loyal” and sticking to the rules of the game vault is very sakura-like. also, adds an element to the au/vault atmosphere. no one really likes the censor.

i gave her two traits that might seem counter intuitive (and maybe they cancel out each other in the game? i didn’t check) but for the au i decided to use the traits in a more figurative sense. well at least for the vault dwellers. sakura has a lot of discipline and she has a set of principles she follows very closely, which is both a strength and a weakness. and both the great escape quest (the one this au is based on) and twelve angry classmates (best quest in game) demonstrate this very well. she has a tendency to… take things too far! even when new information that contradicts her is presented to her. whole premise of the au. so both traits work together.

tagged skills for both of these guys were hard because like i said on the other post, i didn’t want to give the vault dwellers any combat skills. i did end up giving sakura unarmed because she does some crazy physical stuff in the original quest and because she is an active person (her parents make her do all of that stuff on her backyard). this means she would have a higher endurance than the other vaulties, which would give her an advantage in a scenario where radiation finds its way into the vault. huh. speech makes sense for her role (in the vault and in the au) and repair = tinkering = cogs = steampunk. really. sorry.

julian was the second overseer to be chosen and as far as sakura is concerned, that makes him the second in command. he used to be the vault’s little league coach because of course he would. i tried making his vault suit resemble a football uniform. also his pip-boy is covered in stickers from the kids he used to coach. i think he would get really into his overseer job and he’d go along with sakura for the most part. i think his reasoning is different, though. while sakura gets stuck on procedure and then on her (stubborn) ways, i think julian truly believes this is the only option they have. he’s… trying. i don’t think he understands the whole radiation thing 100%. either sakura is keeping information from him, or he just didn’t make the connection yet (everyone is going to die because ezra is basically a ticking time bomb).

i chose loose cannon to reflect his anger issues and good natured because julian gets along with mostly everyone. this is why 6 CHA seems wrong for him but i’m trying to stick to a maximum of 40 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points for each character (which is the limit in new vegas). i also liked making everyone extremely unlucky because lol this is NOT a fortunate situation.

julian has survival as a tagged skill because 1. he’s shown to have survival skills in multiple quests in high school story (he likes camping a lot) and 2. every game of football i’ve ever watched looks like a warzone to me. i chose unarmed for the same reason. barter… i think he’s the match to sakura’s speech in the same way wes is the complimentary barter to the mc’s diplomacy. i think it makes for an interesting overseer dynamic. also, julian used to be a bully and he’s past his days of messing with people but i think it’s a… skill. pushing people’s buttons, i mean. so. he also has a higher endurance than the other vault inhabitants.

okay so i think this vault’s experiment would work like this: three dwellers would be appointed overseers every few years by the vault’s mainframe computer, picked from the overall vault population; each of these overseers would come from different “parts” of the vault though, depending on their assigned jobs. that way, each overseer would have a different personality, which would (eventually) clash as they make choices regarding the vault. this is how we get autumn, julian and sakura as overseers in the au.

the objective here is to see how this would even work. would these people find a way to work together? would they fight?(yes) how does a vault ‘controlled’ by three people even look like? would they listen to the other dwellers? would there be factions/divisions? the biggest ‘test’, then, would be: how would these three people act/react in a high stakes situation that could put the entire vault at risk?

a random person from the vault gets irradiated, somehow. the problem: this vault is missing the P.I.E. (post-irradiation equipment) device (in universe they call it a device like people say atm machines), which is Something vault-tec designed to be used in this exact situation. someone gets irradiated, they use this thing to buy them time until the vault doctors can quarantine this person/give them medicine/external help can arrive. but like i said, this vault doesn’t have one because of the experiment. so this is literally the one situation that couldn’t happen in this vault.

oh also! this person cannot be related to any of the three overseers. this way they don’t Really have a motivation to help this person. just sacrifice them or whatever for the greater good. BUT i think the person wouldn’t be That Random. the person who gets irradiated is actually someone the vault is very dear of/very popular. WHICH! fits the game.

in the pizza day quest you can choose between ezra or shane to go to the storage room. both very popular/well liked in game! and after Reflection. i think it should be ezra who gets irradiated because it would give wes motivation to go out with the mc. in the “best” case scenario, his best friend turns into a ghoul (and they don’t even know wtf is that). in the worst one, he dies and dooms the entire vault with him.

so ezra gets irradiated. the vault doctors can’t get near him to help him bc they don’t have the P.I.E. device. killing him is obviously impopular, but also doesn’t solve the issue of him being radioactive and possibly irradiating the rest of the vault as well. so sakura orders him to get isolated/quarantined in the vault’s prison cells/section. the other vault dwellers ofc love ezra and don’t want him to die, so they try helping him in ways they can (like, ezra still has to eat and stuff). and then it’s kinda like the quest and sakura keeps escalating things and punishing people for trying to help him. the other two overseers start to disagree but they can’t do much because they’re scared of sakura!!! lol. she has ‘alerted’ vault-tec and is certain that help is on the way (it is not) so people need to CHILL (said as she locks up another person).

the mc and wes get in contact with another vault (they get into the overseers’ office somehow. it’s wes) so they can get another P.I.E. device. kinda like the plot to fo1. the difference here is that the two of them are doing this behind sakura’s back and essentially escaping the vault. so they do that. what do they find on the wasteland. errrmn…. things. meanwhile the situation at the vault keeps escalating with sakura + ezra is still at risk of contaminating the entire vault so they’re running against time.
