His parents had been searching for what they called the promised land, this village where all supernatural creatures lived in peace with one another and weren't threatened by hunters. However, they never found it, as his parents were killed when he was a small child by a serial killer hunting supernaturals. Not even the police could figure out what the link between all his victims had been, but the young boy knew. He knew it had been because they were mermaids and that he only got saved because they hid him in a small space on the ceiling of their home. He stayed in his hidey hole for hours, thinking the killer could come back any second. The neighbors got worried when, after two days, there was no movement from the house to take their kid to school, so they called the cops. It was then and only then that Eryx left his hiding place as his house flooded with cops, and he felt safe again.
He had nightmares after that, nightmares where the killer came for him in the orphanage to finish the job and kill him, too, but for some reason, the killer never came for him despite Eryx being a merman like his parents had been. He kept that a secret, though, since he knew his life depended on it. He entered the drama club as soon as he could in school, and once an adult, he entered a modeling school. No one bothered him, but secretly, kids always spoke about the kid whose parents had been murdered by the mysterious serial killer.
Funny thing? That serial killer hunting down the supernatural was also a supernatural himself. A werewolf or a wereshark, he wasn't sure since he had been a kid when it all happened, but he knew it had been a were of some kind.
Now 24 years old, he decides he's tired of living in the world of humans and decides to find refuge in this promised land his parents had been searching for. Turns out they had been close to finding it too.
He finds the city of his dreams, of his parent's dreams, and he continues being a model but on a lower scale. He lives in a small apartment, too, and loves to go for a swim every night before going to bed.
