pilot is well acquainted with the public transport system in cali because pilot doesn’t have a car and donnie isn’t allowed to drive until 21 (movie accurate), so donnie and pilot take the subway and busses EVERYWHERE (donnie not as much, he has his sister to drive him). pilot knows the routes and times like the back of his hand, and when they both get on the train together, pilot feels comfortable and familiar enough to fall asleep. donnie however, doesn’t know the subway at all, so he gets freaked out because he doesn’t know when to get off
