“I was bitten by a spider? Like Peter Parker?”
I absolutely adore the soft expressions on their faces when Kitty says that.

Pineapple Day! Kitty Higham's Death and the Redemption of Eleanor
‼️ghosts s5 spoilers ‼️
i initially wasn’t sure what to think of kitty’s death and eleanor’s redemption because i was so sure that eleanor had murdered her but the more i think about it the more it makes sense.
kitty is a fundamentally optimistic character who believes the people around her are better than they are. she believes in thomas’ poetry, she believes that alison is her friend and she believes the captain can be kind. and through her belief in them these characters do become better, most notably the captain who starts to care about alison and the other ghosts primarily through his friendship with kitty (see the contrast between s1 ep6 and s5 ep6).
all the interactions we’ve seen between kitty and eleanor were filtered through the perspectives of alison and the other ghosts. in ‘something to share?’ it was alison conducting a therapy session to project her relationship with lucy onto kitty and eleanor and in ‘pineapple day’ it’s pat, julian, thomas and the captain deciding to play detective with kitty’s death.
eleanor was undoubtedly horrible to kitty but kitty saw something else in her despite it all. we know she is capable of criticising people she cares about (the captain in s1 ep6 for example and eleanor herself at the end of s3 ep5) so clearly there is something we as the audience aren’t seeing that makes kitty believe eleanor is good at heart.
kitty believed that eleanor could be a better sister. tragically, it took kitty dying for eleanor to return some of that faith and to realise what she’d lost but it feels fitting that kitty got to die finally having the love she gave be returned to her (even if she wasn’t aware of it) and eleanor having to live the rest of her life in guilt over what she’d lost. kitty wasn’t punished by the narrative for her unconditional love and i think that was a excellent way to wrap up her character.
"I was bitten by a spider...? Like Peter Parker?" Look, I didn't expect Kitty to like Spiderman, or even to know him, but it's so on brand for her. It's a great character that was created literally because young people couldn't see themselves in superheroes and he's an optimistic at heart. Kitty trying to shoot webs out of her wrists is everything that's right with the world.

I’m told not many UK peeps who weren’t even alive in the 90s will get this reference.
Before Katy Wix decided to leave the show, the original plot for Pineapple Day was pretty much the same as what we got. Except when they asked Mary what she was up to that day and why she didn't see anything suspicious, she claimed she was busy "praying".
Hard cut to a flashback of her and Annie snogging in the safe.
It's true I tells ye.
Ah, yes, the famous Pineapple Tour of 2014.
