Thinking about collars today....
In my a/b/o au mating marks are between the neck and shoulder, not on the neck itself, so I was wondering about including collars into the mix at all. *I think it'd be interesting if they were used as more of a public display of a claim an alpha has on an omega. Maybe historically it was seen as indecent to show off mating bites at all, so clothing that covers all below the neck would be standard for omegas. The addition of collars could display an omega's mating status without sacrificing decency. It would be a good look for alphas to show off their omega mates with beautiful collars.
Unlike bite collars (which kinda wouldn't be a thing in my au ig), they're usually made of thinner material and can be very personalized and decorated to the wearers preferences.
Ofc overtime these rigid views would start to become more lax and less strict. I think it'd still be seen as more or less indecent to show ones mating bite in public uncovered, but collars on claimed omegas would be more of an outdated practice mainly seen in older or more traditional relationships.
They were made specifically for omegas (as historically only claims alphas put on omegas were taken seriously) but could also see more progressive pairings making a statement and expressing their mutual devotion with both partners wear collars, which would be unusual regardless of the secondary gender pairing.
Side note but despite my au and how i don't tend to like mating bites on necks.... the idea of specific bite collars meant to prevent against unwanted claim attempts is kind of delicious to me icl. Much to think about there

I think it'd be really socially inappropriate to very obviously sniff the air to catch someone's scent. It'd be seen as too primitive and an overly candid and/or indelicate way of either saying something really good or really bad about another person's scent.
Cue a silly scene where person A is milling about with some classmates in school when person B, freshly presented, walks by their group in the halls and person A thoughtlessly pulls a confused expression, looking left and right while their nose scrunches as they instinctively sniff the air thinking 'Something smells amazing, what IS that??'
One of the other kids wacks them on the back of the head like "what are you DOING are you a scent hound?? You look like an idiot, STOP!" and person A snaps out of it red in the face and ducks their head down bc of how badly they just embarrassed themself all the while person B saw the whole thing go down and thinks 'Oh my god that was definitely me i bet i smell horrible to everyone now and A is repulsed by me oh my GOD.'
The way some people write betas or even alphas or omegas talking about betas gets sad as hell I can't even lie. Thinking about characters struggling with vulnerability and submission in their relationships to the point where showing it creates genuine distress. In all dynamics honestly. Omegas who strongly oppose the submissive nature that's been pushed onto them all their lives. Alphas who have been consistently shamed for having a softer nature who've been taught that submission to others is an unbecoming form of weakness. Betas who are uncomfortable being vulnerable bc society taught them that feeling anything at all was too much at it's more acceptable to be emotionless and selfless. Root vegetables (Listen. Listen. They're all good and unique and tasty and you need to hear me out on this)
Also since things like candles, incense, soaps, candies and teas can come in many different flavors/scents but will always have some underlying scent from their base material attached to them, they make for good layered/complex scents
This is more of a pet peeve than anything but an easy way to make up cooler scents is to just. Be specific. Especially if your starting idea is super broad. "she smelled like trees" pick a tree "they smelled like bread/pastries" pick one "he smelled like flowers" I'm telling you the are so many uniqueโ and maybe even symbolic if that's your planโ flowers at your disposal rn
NOTHING wrong with these scent choices they're all good and I love them dearly but. I can only read about so many flower boys before I go a little crazy. The world has too many amazing scents for us to be running the one okay scent of general flowers into the ground

A lot of my base pack headcanons are pretty well summed up by this post by @purrmoon ... They're just incredibly good and I agree with like all of it... So I'm just gonna be kinda expanding on them with some more of my thoughts!
These are all my ideas for what things would look like for... Let's say the western world. In the modern day. but I'd imagine things would function differently in South America or Africa or anywhere else (which I'll touch on in another post)
Packs get legal recognition the same way traditional families do. In the past, it was required for a pack to have at least one pack alpha, pack beta, and pack omega to be legalized, but overtime these roles became less dynamic dependent and the terminology changed to pack head, pack hand, and pack heart filling those respective roles. Now only a pack head is typically needed for a pack to be legalized, but most packs have at least one other role filled by at least one pack member, and it's easier to be legalized that way.
Although any dynamic can fill these roles, it's less socially accepted and harder to legalize packs with different dynamics filling these roles. It's made harder for betas to be pack heads and even harder for omegas to do so. The legalization of omegas being allowed to serve as pack heads was a more recent development, and is still difficult to legally achieve.
Pack heads establish packs and are given the responsibility of speaking for the pack overall, having the final say in impactful decisions. Pack hands are given the responsibility of keeping packs orderly and dealing with pack issues in a diplomatic way. Pack hearts are given the responsibility of taking care of any pups or youngest members of the pack.
Other misc facts:
To pups in a pack that have their own parents, pack alphas are secondary legal guardians adjacent to their parents
To pups in a pack without their own parents, pack alphas become their legal guardians
You must be older than 21 to establish your own pack
Unofficial packs created by pups and adolescents are called pup packs. The term is also used informally to refer to packs that seem impulsively made, unserious, or inexperienced
