Nerds gonna nerd.
This past weekend, I was at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and when I was at the section for early life I heard the person beside me say " Is that some kind of slug?"
I looked and they were talking about Pikaia.
Automatically, I turned to the complete stranger and went "No, Pikaia was actually the earliest known vertebrate. They had the early version of what would become the rods in between vertebrae. So you're looking at our however many times great-grandparent! :D"
They cackled at my response and went "A very very distant great-grandparent! Thanks for sharing that!"
It's nice when you nerd out and people appreciate it. :)
The pikaia doesn’t have the trilobite’s PR team, but Cambrian life continues.
Gerrothorax, Pterygotus, Pikaia, Enchodus, Hallucigenia, Arganodus, Tullimonstrum, Haimirichia, Hibbertopterus, Amiskwia, Opabinia, Hyphantoceras, Ottoia, Tiktaalik, and Cameroceras! Not to scale.
Honestly if I knew I was gonna add so many for this one I would’ve made more room
The reason your brain feels shitty when you don't shower is bc the human body remembers its humble origins as a protovertebrate aquatic worm that breathed through its skin so when your pores get clogged the worm part of your brain thinks you're suffocating and gets scared. Going into the wet regularly helps keep your worm brain calm and happy bc it keeps your skin clean and also simulates the worm's natural environment of the old mid-cambrian ocean. Take care of your worm brain. It's hard being the evolutionary remnant of a creature so tiny it can't understand lungs trapped inside the body of a large complex mammal
