Meet Fitzsimmons, the unexpected addition to our lives. Yesterday a friend of ours came over with 3 guinea pigs she had just rescued, 2 males and a female. Their nails were really really long and they were putting up quite the fight for her, so she asked if I would do their nails. I told her to come on over with exactly zero intention of keeping any guinea pigs. Unfortunately, little Fitzsimmons has some pretty bad dental disease. One of his incisors is missing entirely and his molars are very overgrown. So, we kept him. The other male guinea pig, now named Herman, also stayed at our house to be bonded with Fabio and Burlington before they leave for their forever home. We almost always accept any guinea pig with dental disease because the majority of guinea pigs with dental disease end up euthanized eventually. This is because the cost of treating dental disease can be very high, so owners often have to make a heartwrenching decision. I think it's time for a formal introduction of Mr. Finnian the guinea pig. He even put on his fancy hat to meet you all. So, without further ado, meet Finnian! Finnian, also known as Finnypig, is a guinea pig who is probably about 1 year old. He was transferred to @earps.inc from a shelter back in June. It was quickly discovered that Finny has dental disease and actually only has 3 incisors. Because of that he needs regular dental work, and the complications mean he is pretty underweight. I'm on the board for EARPS, Inc in addition to The Pipsqueakery so we decided that the best option for Finny was to move to The Pipsqueakery as a sanctuary placement. Finny has integrated really well with our little herd and he really likes hats so I think he will fit in fine. Rupert the Pig wants to share his pig house and pig chew with you. Houses are very important to Rupert because he has clubbed feet that were never corrected. His front feet fold under, and he walks on his wrists and the back of his paws. His back feet don't splay out like normal piggy feet.
