Happy international pigeon day! On this day 100 years ago, Cher Ami, a US carrier pigeon donated by the UK, sadly passed away. She is remembered as one of the bravest birds of the war, having flown for over 25 minutes through a hail of bullets (leading to the loss of one eye and her right leg) to deliver her message. Her actions saved the lives of over 200 men and she, along with many other birds, went on to save hundreds more over the course of the war. Pigeons are a remarkable group of birds.
