October 11, 2025 - Rufous-breasted Piculet (Picumnus rufiventris) These tiny woodpeckers are found at the edges of forests, often near rivers or roads, in parts of Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia. Foraging on branches and vines, they probably feed on insects found in tree bark. Though little is known about their nesting behavior, they breed from January to March in Peru and Bolivia and juveniles have been found in June and November in Ecuador.
