Francis Picabia 'Pavonia' 1929
👨🎨Francis Picabia was a French avant-garde painter, poet and typographer. Known for his versatility, irreverence and constant reinvention, Picabia was one of the most unpredictable and provocative figures in Modern Art.
🖼️Picabia created a series of panels, known as "transparencies", for the bedroom of Madame Rosenberg, which included 'Pavonia'.
Inspired by classical mythology, the overlapping figures, flowers and architectural details in Picabia's work evoke a sensuous and surreal dream.
Sold for €10 million at Sotheby's in 2022, at a record price for a work by Picabia.

It's fun to challenge myself with some of the more WHOA palettes, though sometimes the lighting conditions of the original photos mean certain colors are going to work best. I'm really pleased that I was able to get a satisfying composition out of such a bright yellow-green palette.
