I stayed off tumblr until I finished the whole second season of live action A:TLA because I didnât want to be spoiled. I have finished it. I fucking loved it. I know itâs getting so so so much hate. Personally, I really enjoyed it. Yes, itâs not a carbon copy of the animated show. After seeing this season I see now it wasnât meant to be.
SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT;
This season really focuses on the detail of war, the suffering and pain it has caused. I loved the added scenes (particularly the ones with Ursa, along with Zukoâs fever dream and with Iroh) I loved the added scenes of Katara and Sokka talking about their grief over the loss of their mom and the loss of Yue. I absolutely love Toph and all her scenes. As hard as it was to watch, I loved that they added the scene of her motherâs cruelty. That was heavy, but important.
The crystal catacombs scene with Zuka and Katara was emotional, and they added a new line or two for Zukoâs character that really expressed how much he frankly canât stand himself and why. Azulaâs character is amazing, she is much crueler in the live action than the original show. We see her take lives. We see her manipulate her brother by bringing up their mother and wording things in a way to convince him to be on her side.
Iâm very excited to see the next season. I hate seeing how cruel people are being about it, but we all have a right to our own opinion. But when it comes to hating on the actors and actresses, even going so far as sending them death threats and body shaming an actress; that is wrong on every level and is absolutely disgusting. People justifying their cruelty by saying âwell theyâre not actual children like in the show, theyâre grown adultsâ That doesnât make it right. Itâs still cruel. The ATLA fandom doesnât need that and itâs not welcome.
