This post will focus on how cropping an image can lead to different effect in different scenarios. The first picture is a favourite from my shoot today, I like it for the balance of colour and lighting, the position of the main focal point in the frame and the light shining through the blossom slightly. The way that the light fades towards the left andΒ βbackβ of the picture helps draw focus to the main focal point. I think the image unedited could make an interesting greeting card or canvas because of the layout and content.
I cropped it to attempt to hide different and accentuate aspects of it, and found interesting effects. Firstly, when I cropped just the top band off, the contrast between the bright light - emphasising the flowers - and the darkness and shadow around the tree created contrast and appeared to brighten the flowers. In reality, none of these pictures have any editing other than cropping. I think this image would be good as the background for a title for a blog, article or leaflet etc. (placed in the bottom left of the image).
When I cropped the image down to just the main focal point of the flowers, I found that the shades of pink used were highlighted the most, and the blues and greens in this picture seemed to show up the least. This may be a good picture for the banner of a leaflet or an image in an article, showing the form of flowers or demonstrating a certain aspect of their design or biology etc.
I hope this shows that one image can have many different uses depending on how it is cropped, and that editing doesnβt always have to mean altering the original image past being recognisable to create many different effects. I may do another post like this soon if I take another picture like this
